By the end of the week, Demi was hooked on my cookies, claiming they were the best ever. And she had a huge secret. Our one year anniversary celebration.

I knew nothing, except the restaurant Max was going to drive me to. After my accident, I hadn't gotten a new car, but even if I did, I had no idea where the restaurant was. It wasn't one I was familiar with due to how fancy it is. I never had a reason to eat like a royal or the money either.

I bought a new dress and shoes for the occasion, a tight red dress, with a slit that went halfway up my thigh. The shoes were a deeper shade of red with a white ankle strap. Admittedly, I wasn't the best at walking in heels, but I had been practicing since I started dating Demi. I could walk across a room without breaking anything, and that was what mattered. I added some black and red earrings, because I felt too dressed up to have naked ears.

I met Max at the car, and he helped me in. I had a small black clutch as well, but I had never used it before, even after having it for almost two years.

He drove me to the restaurant, and walked me inside, leading me to a secluded area outside. There were strings of lights and a table set for two. Demi was already sitting there, standing when she saw me. She wore a short white dress with black details and her hair was loose and wavy over intricate diamond hoops. Her black shoes sparkled in the dim light.

"Hi," she said, sounding nervous

"Hi," she said, sounding nervous. She held her hands out, gesturing to the setup. "You like?"

Max left silently, and I walked over to Demi. "It looks amazing. How did you manage this in less than a week?"

"This isn't even everything," she bragged, laughing. We sat down and soon were each brought a glass of iced water.

As we glanced over the menus, I could tell she was excited about something, hiding it by lightly biting her lip.

"I can't even begin to imagine what else you have planned," I told her after we ordered.

She grinned, taking a drink. "You'll see."

I rolled my eyes at her faux mysteriousness, chuckling. "It's been a crazy year, but I'm happy we made it through," I said, suddenly feeling sappy and romantic.

"Agreed." She reached over the table and held my hand. "I'm so happy I have you, Maia. And when I found out about your crash, I blamed myself for so long. It felt like I caused it and I don't know what I would have done if you were gone."

My eyes were watering. "Demi, I felt the same way about your... overdose." It felt wrong to say, especially in a more public settings, but she seemed like she didn't have a problem. "Not really like I caused it, but like it was my fault for leaving you that night. And terrified you wouldn't pull through. That something would happen." I looked down, a few tears falling.

She gave my hand a squeeze as I carefully wiped my tears. A few minutes later, our waiter brought our food. The portions were small, but Demi had something else planned so she didn't want us to eat too much.

"Do you have a change of clothes?" she asked during dessert. It was the largest one they had, a slice of chocolate creme pie and we both had one. With an extra drizzle of chocolate sauce on top.

"What? For what?" My fork was halfway to my mouth and Demi laughed.

"Did you not get my text?"

I shook my head, slowly moving my fork to my mouth to eat my pie. It was so smooth and chocolatey. I was already hooked.

"Huh, did it not send?" She quickly checked her phone. "Damn." She put her phone away. "It didn't send, but I said to leave a change of clothes in Max's car."

I shook my head. "I'm sorry." I wasn't sure why I was apologizing, but my pie was so good and I didn't know why I had to change out my dress.

"Give me sec," Demi said, grabbing her phone again. "I'll tell Max I got it taken care of and he can go home. But we gotta drop by your house after we leave," she said looking up at me again. "Oh, my Lord." She laughed.

"What?"

"You have a little bit of chocolate on your face." She pointed at the corner of her mouth, and I tried licking it. "Other side," she said with a giggle.

I licked the other side, tasting the chocolate.

"This is why I can't take you places," she joked.

"You love me and all of my weirdness. Don't even," I joked back.

"True."

I finished my pie while Demi took her time. She rubbed it in my face too.

Finally she rolled her eyes and grabbed her phone one last time. A few minutes later, another slice of pie was placed in front of me.

I stared at the beautiful human in front of me.

"I figured you'd want seconds, so I had some arrangements made," she explained vaguely.

"H-How?" I was in disbelief, but I was already eating. It was amazing how well this woman knew me. It was scary sometimes.

Demi laughed. "I have my ways. I just hope you don't get sick," she said, causing me to look at her in confusion.

Sick? Why would I get sick?
