The story focuses on Maximilian, a boy ghost who died during the Salem Witch Trials in the late 1600s. He was burnt at the stake as he was accused of witchcraft but was innocent. His soul couldn't pass through to the afterlife due to some complications, so he was bound to stay on the Earth for eternity as a ghost.
