Castiel shuffles out of his room, rubbing sleep from his eyes. It's two in the morning and he had woken up thirsty.

The first thing that strikes him as odd is the bathroom light, which is on. No one in his family ever leaves the light on at night.

Furrowing his brows, Castiel steps towards the door. Peeking in, he's met with Sam, who is leaning over the sink, using both arms for support. He glances up at Castiel but quickly looks back down.

"You alright?" Castiel asks quietly, feeling the awkwardness set in between them.

"Yeah," Sam breathes out. "Just had a nightmare."

"And you didn't wake Gabriel up?"

He shakes his head. "Didn't want to bother him."

Castiel hums in response. It's understandable enough.

"Y'know, I know my brother's your soulmate," Sam speaks up, breaking the silence. Castiel nods his head. "It was Gabriel's idea to keep it from you. I thought it was a good idea at the time but I think Dean needs you. Just like I need Gabriel right now."

Castiel tilts his head, urging Sam to go on.

"Your soulmate is Dean Winchester."
