Slash woke up on the family room couch after his breakdown the night before. It was around seven, early enough to where he knew he had a while until the kids woke up.
He splashed some cold water on his face. God he looked like a wreck. Hollow brown eyes stared back at him in the mirror. He couldn't bear to sleep in the master bed again by himself, not when the sheets still smelled like her Chanel perfume.
Her coffee mug from days ago still sat on the counter, but he couldn't bring himself to wash it. The pink lipstick mark around the rim was still there.
He shoved the thoughts of Perla away, focusing on the task at hand. He needed childcare for London and Cash, if he had that then he would be able to record the album just fine.
Slash decided to put an ad in Yellowpages, hoping that someone would call and be willing to watch his kids. He wasn't ok with just leaving them alone.
He designed the ad quickly on his new Apple computer and paid the fee to have it put in the Yellowpages online directory.
There, hopefully he could find someone by the end of the week, preferably by the end of the day.
London was already enrolled in daycare three times a week, so that was helpful, he'd need to make sure that the babysitter had a car.
He had listed his cell number in the ad, but hadn't told anyone who he was, hoping that only people who were genuinely interested in watching the kids would call, not because they knew his name.
It was around ten when Slash began to get the kids dressed, knowing they needed to leave in the next half hour to make it to the doctor's office on time. He'd fed them breakfast the hour before, and made sure that they had gotten a bath.
It wasn't until he had put up the ad when he realized just how much he loved his kids. He wasn't ok with just anyone watching them, it had to be someone qualified. He wanted them to be safe.
He checked in at the front desk of the pediatricians office, then led his sons to sit by the fish tank to wait.
London was ogling the puffer fish as it flapped around lazily. It was pointy!
"London and Cash Hudson" the female nurse's voice was very sweet.
Slash let the two to the room to begin London's appointment first.
He let his thoughts drift to Perla. He sure hoped everything was okay. He hoped she'd come home soon.
When they had finished with a clean bill of health, Slash drove them home and told them it was quiet time.
The kids went into their rooms for a nap, and he went out on the deck to smoke.
Cigs were the one addiction he hadn't quit yet. Heroin, cocaine, alcohol and even weed he had quit a while back, but he couldn't kick cigarettes, they were all he had left.
He called Perla, but she didn't answer. He left her a voicemail, figuring that she was too busy to answer.
"Hey baby, I really miss you, please come home. We can figure this all out I promise. Just come home."
His Nokia phone began ringing, the sound jolting him out of his melancholy thoughts.
"Hello?"
"Hi, I'm Jen and I saw your yellowpages ad for a babysitter?" She sounded young, and a little bit timid.
But Slash wanted to know more. "Oh I'm so glad you called! Tell me a little bit about yourself."
"I'm a 3rd year pre-med student at UCLA and I want to be a nurse. I'm 21."
"You sound more than qualified to watch my two sons, they are 2 and 3. Would you like to meet them tonight and you can start tomorrow morning?"
Jen laughed on the other end of the phone. "I'd love to. I didn't catch your name or address by the way? How come you didn't list it in your ad?"
"Oh I'm sorry I totally forgot. I'm Mr. Hudson. I didn't list any of that info in my ad because I'm a fairly well known musician, and I didn't want people to call because they knew who I was, you know?"
Slash cringed at his formal name. He also told her his address.
"Ok, that makes sense Mr.Hudson. I can come at 5 if that's ok?"
"That sounds great Jen, thank you so much!"
Oh shit, he forgot that the house was still a mess from Steven and Izzy watching the kids the day before. He walked into the kitchen, it was still covered in silver glitter, and bits of playdoh stuck to the glass table. Oh boy did he have a lot of work to do.
Luckily the kids were down for a nap or he'd never get this done.
The first order of business was to make sure the kitchen was clean, since that was the worst mess.
Should he make dinner or was that weird?
No, he'd just invite the kids to eat too, then it would be like a family thing.
He swept up the glitter and began washing dishes. He wondered what the living room looked like, Steven had probably wreaked havoc on that room as well.
He glanced at the clock, straightened up the pillows on the couches and attempted to clean up the toys in the playroom.
The doorbell rang, and when Slash opened the door, he inhaled sharply at the beauty of the woman staring back at him.
-------
Finally Jen is going to make an appearance! The picture up above is what I picture her to look like (Willa Holland)! Slash said in an interview that he wanted the sweetest looking girl with the dirtiest mind so hopefully I can work with that.
