"Depression is now a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act." (Source: psychiatry.org)
Many people from different ages suffer from depression and some of them wanted to end their life because of problems which they think do not have a solution. Based on WHO-Philippines, there are more than 3.29 million people suffering from depression while 3.07 million people are living with anxiety. In 2017, suicide was the second leading cause of death among 15-29 years old and 78% of global suicides occur in low and middle-income countries. (Source: CNN Philippines)
As this generation grows up, and with the easy access of technology, cyber bullying has been one of the most popular reason of depression for teens and most people who are being bullied. Isang pagkakamali, post agad sa social media sites.
One of the famous cyber bullying that I could remember was "AMALAYER" (2012). The lady from the video was a graduating college student and a lot of netizens who watched the video sent hate messages towards her. On an interview with ABS-CBN on 2014, she told them that she could have taken her own life if not without that small voice inside her head that made her realize things. She stood up and found herself in the comfort of young Christians who helped her recover from the bullying she had experienced online.
"Amalayer" could be one of those people who kept their feelings inside until they can no longer handle it. At ang resulta? Umaayaw na sila. Sa pagsuko nila, maraming pwedeng masaktan dahil sa nagawa nilang desisyon. Hindi lang natapos ang problema sa solusyon na ginawa nila. In fact, it can cause a domino effect of negative reaction. And'yan ang pagdadalamhati ng mga mahal sa buhay, kamag-anak, kaibigan, etc. And'yan ang pag-ku-kwestyon nila sa sarili nila, asking themselves, "Hindi ba enough? Nagkulang ba tayo? Hindi ba natin siya minahal nang sobra?"
If they would just try to open up and seek for someone to talk to, malalaman nila na hindi sila nag-iisa. Na merong taong pwede nilang sandalan in times na gusto na nila sumuko. Na merong taong pwede nilang malapitan whenever they wanted to have someone to be with. You just let these people know that you're always there for them whatever happens.
Palagi tayong may makakausap. Suicide is never an option. Never give up dapat ang motto sa buhay! There's always a rainbow after the rain. There's always hope after a tragedy. 😊
