He walked over and handed you a letter with your name neatly written on the front. "Yeah, things to do and people to see." You smiled as Alden nodded. "I see, is that all you need?" He questioned. You raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out who the letter was from. "Yes, thank you, Alden!" You smiled and walked out of the station to your horse hitched just outside.
"Dearest (Y/N)." The letter started, it had been a long time since anyone had called you that. You brushed a few strands of loose hair behind your ear, leaned against the hitching post and continued reading. "It has been a while since we last met, my friend." The letter went on for a while but the more you read, the better image you had of the person that had sent it. "I remember you telling me that you were thinking of settling near Rhodes. As you know, our paths always seem to cross one way or another, turns out I'll be riding through very soon, a business trip let's say."
The smile on your face grew as you figured out what was happening. "If you wish to catch up, I'll be in Rhodes tomorrow. I hope to see you there. Yours truly, Josiah." You read the last line a few times and folded the letter, putting it away safely. You were already looking forward to seeing your old friend again. You headed to the general store next to pick up supplies for the week ahead, then mounted your horse and headed home.
You wanted to prepare yourself for Josiah's visit, but you got slightly nervous at the thought of it, even though it was still hours away. You hadn't seen eachother in years and you were surprised by what you were feeling. You had the day all planned out already: you'd meet at the station, have a few drinks and talk about the memories you both shared of old days when you used to run together. To keep your mind from wandering, you decided to tidy up your small, humble home, just in case you decided to bring your old friend back.
By the time you were finished, the sun had set and the stars had started appearing in the dark blue sky. You went out to check on your horse, giving him/her a quick brush down and a pile of hay for the night. It didn't take long for you to get tired, so you went back in and wrote a few things in your journal about the day before falling asleep, hoping to get a good few hours for the big day ahead.
You woke up earlier than usual, whether it was the nerves or the birds singing loudly outside, you didn't know. You sat up and rubbed your eyes. Looking out the window you could see what a nice day it was, hopefully it would stay that way for Trelawny's visit. You got up slowly and headed to the kitchen, brewed yourself some coffee and headed back to your bedroom to find something to wear.
You threw on what you looked best in, grabbed two apples, one for you, one for your horse and headed out, tacking up your mount and getting on. "Let's go." You kicked gently and headed down the road, towards Rhodes. Your nerves were rising again, you'd always had feelings for Josiah, whether it was mutual or not was another story. You continued in a steady canter, wanting to get to the station before Josiah.
You arrived in Rhodes, people smiled and greeted you as you rode past. You hitched your horse at the train station and sat on the steps outside. "Where are you, Josiah?" You muttered to yourself. You managed to make out a familiar silhouette in the distance after what felt like a very long time which in reality was only a few minutes. You stood up and checked yourself one more time, making sure you were presentable, not that Trelawny minded, he just wanted to see you.
You had a smile plastered on your face as he slid off his horse and hitched it next to yours. "Hi!" Your voice was shaky. He walked over and pulled you in for a hug. "It's been far too long, (Y/N)." He smirked, pulling away to look at you. "Beautiful as ever." He smiled. You blushed and pushed him away. "You're too kind, Josiah. You don't look half bad yourself." He looked around at the small town. "Nice place." He started. "How about we get some drinks? There are many things we have to catch up on!"
After a few drinks and in a slightly tipsy state, Josiah convinced you to take him back to your place. He'd never been, after all. You mounted your horses and followed the trail back to your place, singing and laughing as it was quite a way out of Rhodes. Once you got home, you untacked your horses and let them rest before going in and showing Josiah around. "So, this is it." You gestured as Josiah looked around, impressed. "All by yourself, huh?" He raised an eyebrow to which you nodded. "All by myself." You repeated slowly.
Josiah walked up to you and placed one hand on your hip, the other on the back of your neck. You knew what was coming next, and whether it was because you were slightly tipsy or because you actually wanted it, you didn't pull away. He placed his lips on yours and you couldn't help but give in. It had been so long since you had felt his touch, especially in this way. "Josiah." You mumbled into the kiss.
Trelawny didn't hesitate, he pushed you gently towards your bedroom and sat you down on the bed. "I've missed you." He grumbled and kissed you again. "When you said you'd be passing through, this isn't what I had in mind." You laughed quietly. "Why, are you complaining?" Josiah raised an eyebrow. "N-no, not at all." You blushed and pulled him closer.
It's safe to say that the bedroom wasn't as clean as it had been after that night. Josiah stayed with you for a while before he had to ride back to Rhodes for his so-called business trip. You reluctantly let him go, watching until he was out of sight. All you could think of was his return, and you couldn't wait.
