Chapter 4

Song: Eternal Space By Hazy

Sophie's Pov.

When we get to the school building, we are still having a conversation over how Lacey is too blind to see that Dylan has a major crush on her.

"Lacey, I think that you need bifocals. Dylan is literally bothering you all the time because he likes you. A lot." Megan huffs in annoyance as she explains this to Lacey for what will be the fifth time today.

"It's a cl-"

"Classic boy maneuver. Yeah, I get it but if that were an actual thing then he wouldn't be bullying me twenty-four seven and shoving his tongue down Mali's dry throat." Lacey rebuttals.

"Why does Mali's throat have to be dry?" I ask in wonder and she gives me a stern look.

"Guys stop. He's a jerk that will get his karma soon so let's just drop the topic, okay?" She asks us intensely. I let it go because whenever she gets this bitter, it meant that she was on the brink of snapping.

We walk into our first-period class together and we take a seat towards the middle. The teacher walks in and his eyes scan the class. When his eyes land on mine, he gives me a discreet smile which I somewhat return. I wasn't sure if I wanted to just be a stone cold heart bitch to him in class just so that he would pay less attention to me or if I was gonna be polite and civilized.

I felt myself creeping more towards the nicer side. Curse my politeness.

"Good morning, class." he greets us.

"Today, You will be receiving your first assignment." He walks away from his desk to hand us out a sheet with the criteria for the essay.

"Ugh. I hate writing assignments." Megan frowns while placing a fist underneath her chin. Meanwhile, Lacey is the exact opposite. She's practically jumping in her seat because she loved writing.

"Don't worry. For all of you who are not a fan of writing- despite the fact that you choose to be in an honors English class- this first assignment is pretty simple." I read over the criteria once in handed a sheet of paper.

Write a 3-4 paged essay about what you are deeply passionate about.

Okay, that's not so bad. I could do that.

I raise my hand to ask a question.

"Yes, Sophie." He motions for me to ask away.

"Is it okay if we go over 4 pages? And also on the sheet, it says that we have to have a works cited page if we're thinking about interviewing someone else. If we wanted to, could we also make a video to go along with the essay on why we are passionate about that said topic?" I asked and I could practically hear some people groaning in the background, but I generally wanted to know. I know that Lacey was probably wondering the first question since she always went over the maximum required pages. So I kind of asked that question for her. She and I were pretty similar when it came to the academics. We both wanted to do very well in school.

For me, since I was planning to audition for the school of Julliard, I wanted my grades to be just as sharp as my dance moves. That way the school could see that I was not just relying on my dancing abilities, but that I was overall smart and well-rounded student.

"Good question Sophie. If you want to be extra, you can go over the 4-page maximum requirement, but please don't put me through the torture of having to read a 9-page long essay. As for the video, I think that that would be very interesting to put together a visual video. For all of you more artistic students, that would be fine with me, but it's not by any means required." He says and I nod my head.
