I must've fallen asleep by the riverside. I was woken by a clatter and birds chirping. The sun was beginning to rise and it soon dawned upon me that I would likely freeze if I remained any longer. I stood, brushing the dirt and leaves from my skirts. I trotted to the gates of Cookham, entering quietly and quickly like a thief in the night. I knew I could not return to my own bed for fear Thorfinn was there, and so, I made my way to the hall, hoping Finan would be there.

I halted in my steps. It was Thorfinn, his thick, Danish accent made it extremely clear to me. I was filled with a sense of terror; I was defenceless, without sword or knife to protect myself.
