Chapter 11

"Did we miss much?", F/#2/n asked loudly, the rest of M/n's friends behind him.

M/n's body slipped through the water, trapping him underneath. With every break through the surface, his breathing got heavier. F/n, Gou, and the others cheered loudly. "M/n!!", F/n yelled.

M/n struggled. He felt vine-like ropes wrap around him, holding him back. Nagisa and Makoto's eyes widened. "Oh no..."

"L/n-senpai..."

Come on!!

He pushed his body through till the end. He stood up as soon as he touched the wall, a gasp leaving him.

"M/n..."

He got out of the pool and slipped his jacket back on, trying to control his breathing and racing heart.

"Has anyone seen M/n? His next event is about to start."

"I'll go find him", F/n volunteered, standing up before seeing M/n in the line of swimmers that were in the next event.

He took off his jacket and placed it in the bin behind him before putting on his gear. He spotted his friends in the crowd, including someone he didn't expect nor wanted to see: his dad. M/n cast his gaze down at the water.

<Flashback>

"M/n!!!"

I took a deep breath as I got into diving position.

"You can do it!!!"

As soon as I heard the 'beep', I dove in. I relied on my arms and legs to push me through the water. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I kept at it until I felt something in my leg snap just as I pushed off the wall.

I rose up for air, gasping on my way back. My vision was getting blurry from being pushed down into the water.

"M/...M/n...M/n...!"

I could barely hear what was going on around me. The figures hovering above me weren't recognizable. My lungs were burning. My body yearned for oxygen.

He got on top of the stand, securing his goggles. "Ready."

M/n got down into diving position, taking a deep breath.

*beep*

"He took a late start..!", Makoto said, his gaze on M/n intensifying.

Come on, M/n! What kind of teammate are you if you can't win them at least one of these events!? They deserve that much!

The vines that had wrapped around him had loosened a little. He pushed himself further along using his arms. "He's gaining speed!"

Come on!! It's for them, M/n! You can do it!

He turned and began fighting his way to first. "He passed the third guy!"

"Now the second!!"

"M/n!!!!", they cheered.

His head broke the surface as soon as his hand made connection with the wall.

"He won!!! M/n won!!", Nagisa and Gou shouted, jumping up and down.

M/n pulled himself out of the pool and grabbed his jacket before leaving. Stepping into the locker room, he showered and put his regular clothes on. Grabbing his bag, he made his way to where Mrs. Amakata was waiting for him.
