Y/N's POV

I woke up and groaned.

I gasped.

"Where are we?" I questioned.

"We just left Harvey, West Virginia. We met up with a friend who helped me switch cars." Kate explained.

"Where is everybody?" I asked.

"Uh, most people fled to the big cities for work. No kids. No economy." She answered.

"No kids?" I asked.

She shook her head.

"How long will it take to get home?" I asked while looking out of the window.

"Home?" She said.

"Yeah. You are taking me home right?" I said.

"No."

"But, I just want to go home!" I said, tearing up a little bit.

"Y/n it is not safe at home." Kate explained.

A truck horn honks.

"Get down!" She exclaimed.

My head went down and I ducked.

"I'm going to protect you y/n." She says, glancing at me before turning her attention back to the road.

"Have you ever heard of the children's league?"

"No."

"Most people don't realize the camps are total bullshit, because the White House keeps flaunting its reformed children on TV, including the president's son. So we started the League to get you guys out of the camps. Those on the upper end of the scale, the Reds and the Oranges, are considered too dangerous. Y/n you are very, very rare. Among the most powerful and the least trusted. Those like you are... killed on sight." Kate says.

"What are we going to do?" I asked.

"and you find yourself in danger, I want you to squeeze this pendant for three seconds. It's a tracking device, but only if you activate it. And it only goes to me. Okay? Look, y/n, you and I both know how dangerous it is out here. At some point, it might be really nice to have someone looking out for you."

*****************
We pulled up to a gas station and a man with a truck was waiting for us.

Kate went up to the man and hugged him.

"Oh." She pulled back.

"Y/n this is Rob." Kate introduced me to him.

He put his hand out for me to shake and I just looked down.

He gave me a backpack.

"It's nice to meet you. We don't have a ton of time. And we need you to change, okay? New clothes, soap, some other things. The bathroom in the station still has running water. But hey. Definitely don't drink it, okay?" He said.

I stepped back and tripped.

"Woah, hey!" Rob grabbed my hand.

My eyes flickered.

It was like I was in his mind.

I saw a blue. Running. Rob pushed the person down and said "your not going anywhere."

I gasped.

"You okay?" Kate asked.

I nodded. "I uh just tripped." I said and walked away.

I walked into the gas station and set my bag down in an aisle.

As I put my jacket on I heard something drop on the floor in the back of the store. (Ooh bars)

I slowly walked forward and saw a girl round the corner.
