Ballade: "My Dainty Lady"

I lived on Mount Ida, away from Troy,

Brought up by shepherds and now tending sheep,

Then goddesses came not knowing their ploy,

And asked me each whose beauty’s in the peak!

Not knowing that my fate was being sealed,

I let them three convince me entirely,

Unsuspecting the lives that would be killed,

Just wanting love from my dainty lady.

Full of authority, Hera approached,

Promising to make a ruler of me,

To Europe and Asia, I would be coached,

To maintain the throne for the world to see.

Athena came with her esteemed wisdom,

Against the Greeks, she’d help in victory,

But I have not been yearning a kingdom,

Just wanting love from my dainty lady.

At last, there came Aphrodite’s present,

Her vow to bestow the world’s so fairest,

I didn’t think far and just gave my assent,

To have my Helen who’s above the rest!

Though that time I was smitten by a nymph,

I made a plan and kept myself busy,

To abduct Helen, not stopping to think,

Just wanting love from my dainty lady.

Ten years it took for the siege to conclude,

Eris free discord, enjoying fairly,

Here I lay dying, will never delude,

Just wanting love from my dainty lady.
