Chapter Two

The rest of the day seemed to pass by quickly.

There was one moment that stood out to me in particular. In class, you sat only two seats away from Gwen, the new girl. Around ten minutes into class, the boy from earlier busted open the door, carrying his backpack.

The teacher have him an impatient glare. "You're late, Mr. Morales." He giggled nervously, and started blinking rapidly, eyes shifting around the room.

"Well, Einstein said time is relative, therefore I'm technically not late." He spoke confidently, which didn't match his mannerisms. I smiled a bit, stifling a laugh so I wouldn't get in trouble. Then Gwen let out the fakest laugh I have ever heard after a moment of silence in the classroom. I'm guessing she laughed because of the awkward stillness that comes with silence, and so I thanked her for that.

The boy sat down in the seat between me and Gwen, looking around at all of his new classmates. "You liked my joke?" The boy asked me, as he saw I found it amusing.

"Yeah, actually.." I offered him a bashful smile, tucking a piece of my hair behind my ear. He smiled softly at me, and time seemed to freeze as we looked at each other for what felt like hours. Nora's words came back to me, and swallowed and turned away from him.

Then, Gwen had the nerve to come into our conversation, and offer her input. "Yeah, I liked your joke too... That's why I laughed." She whispered to him.

"Aw, thanks." He grinned, and then we all shut up and turned back to our books as the teacher came by.

The bell soon rang, indicating that it was next period already. After everyone had left the classroom, it was just me and that boy that were still packing up.

"Hey, uh... I didn't catch your name." The boy asked me sheepishly, rubbing the back. of his neck.

"Well I didn't throw it." I smiled in a way as friendly as I could muster. "It's Y/n." I offered, and he nodded.

"Cool... Cool. That's cool.." The awkwardness in his voice was very obvious. "Um, my name is Miles. Miles Morales." Miles finished, introducing himself like James Bond.

Miles. That's a nice name. I laughed quietly, until the teacher came up to, looking over us.

"You have to go to your other class. Stop stalling." Her tone was angry but I could sense a hint of a smile on her lips. "I just might have to give you two detentions, but then again you'd probably talk the whole time." Was the teacher... Teasing us? "Now go on." She ushered us out.

A wide grin grew on my face. "Well, I guess I'll see you later Miles." His name rolled easily off my tongue.

"Yeah, bye Y/n." He waved goodbye, and I waved back, not paying attention to my surroundings. I smacked into someone, and I thanked the gods above that Miles had already left so he couldn't have seen that..

"Y/n!!" A familiar voice squealed. Nora... "We're you just talking to the boy from earlier?!" She shrieked excitedly.

"Pfft... Noooooo, and his name isn't 'boy', it's Miles!" I said defensively, then I realized I just gave myself away. "Yes, I was." Nora shrieked so loud that I was sure my eardrums were bleeding.

"You're already on first name basis?! Oh my God you have a freaking boyfriend?!" Nora gaped at me deliriously.

"He not my boyfriend!" I quickly slapped a hand over her mouth to stop anyone else from hearing her nonsense. She licked my hand and I pulled away, wiping my hand on my shirt. "Gross," I grimaced, but she just ignored me.

"I saw the way he was looking at you. He was totally checking you out! Guys only do that to girls they find attractive!" Nora said in a singsong voice.

"He was not!" I exclaimed. "Besides, we just met."

"Boys check out girls that they don't even know the name of, sweety." Nora giggled, poking my cheek. She let out a soft sigh. " Oh, my little girl is growing up so fast! "

Nora is so weird sometimes...
