Most of the time, things seemed normal to Brynn. Not a lot had changed since the interaction that Julius and her had, they never bothered to touch that subject again.
But Brynn noticed it all. The prolonged stares she would receive from the Captain, and how he would turn away and look somewhere whenever she would look back. The concerned glances that he would give her during missions. The increase of his “Are you alright?” and “How are you feeling?” questions.
She knew that she wasn’t the only one who had noticed. She would catch Gil staring at them, she could hear the cheeky whispers of Romeo and Nana whenever they would interact. Even Ciel seemed to be aware and gave her curious stares.
She dismissed them all, however. She tried to act as normal as she could and pretend that she didn’t notice.
There were also some days, where they hardly talked, when they were consumed by their own thoughts.
‘Why did I have to say that?’ Brynn buried her face in the palm of her hands as her elbows leaned against the table in the cafeteria. The blonde had been waiting for about 30 minutes, the kitchen staff seemed to be taking their sweet time. She was waiting for them to give her the go signal to use the kitchen.
It’s been quite some time since she last held a frying pan and a knife. Her blade didn’t count as it was used for slaying aragami, not cooking.
Nana also insisted that she teach her how to cook. For whatever reason, she had no idea why but she was willing.
The blackette hasn’t arrived. Leaving her, and a few other God Eaters, alone in the cafeteria. She didn’t know anyone them, seeing that they came from different units. It was rare to see one face more than once seeing that most of them were always out in the field.
“The Blood Unit is so amazing!” Brynn’s ears picked up a high pitched voice which came from a brown-haired girl across the room. She was clad in what seemed to be the standard uniform that new trainees wore. She was seeing them pop up often.
It’s not that she was listening in, she just happened to hear them.
Another voice chimed in, a honeyed voice that seemed better to listen to than the first girl who spoke, “They are,” the woman was clad in a flattering blue polo shirt that complimented her onyx black hair. “Especially their Captain, what’s his name again? Haru’s friend is pretty cool, too.” She paused for awhile before the third person in their group spoke up.
“Captain Visconti,” It was a male this time, an orotund and modulated voice. Brynn could sense the spite in it. “They’re just a bunch of normal God Eaters, same as us.” Brynn rolled her eyes as she listened, “They’re not much better, only they were given fancier God Arcs and what do you call that? Blood Art? I bet they don’t have real skill.”
Brynn’s fingers stopped drumming as she purposely looked at the male with a cocked eyebrow. The movement that she made when she sat up straight and ran her right hand through her hair caused him to look towards her.
Knowing that she earned his attention, a sweet smile crossed her face. She knew that the other two girls had noticed as well.
“I think that you should be thankful that Blood is offering their services to the branch,” She began, not bothering to stand from her seat as she spoke. “Not that I’m belittling any of you, it’s true that our force is quite lucky to be compatible with P66 Bias Factor, but we also work hard and train hard in order to achieve what we are capable of doing now.” She nearly cringed at the thought of the training schedule that they had before coming to the Far East.
Even with how far they were, Brynn knew that the guy’s eyes averted to her armlet, which showed the difference between the two of them.
“Instead of complaining and trying to bring us down, use the damn time to train harder.” Before she could say anything more, a hand on her shoulder had managed to snap her from her annoyance. She looked up to see that it was Nana who was giving her a look of concern.
