17: Friend

It was a pretty normal day of class. And... you had a new student! He sat beside you. Since there were no other spare seats in the class, he got to sit anywhere he liked and you'd have a desk of three.

This person was Jake, the person you had just met the day before and also the Akuma you had helped. And of all places, he decided to sit next to you. 

He had come in early, so everyone was surrounding your desk and asking him all sort of questions, which also blocked the path to your seat... You were slightly confused; why hadn't they done this with Adrien, too? Oh, right, Adrien came into class pretty late, and most people had surrounded him as soon as he came into the school already.

The chattering continued, people forgetting the time and continuing until Miss Bustier came in.

"Alright, we'll take attendance now! Get to your seats!" She called with a smile. Everyone scattered to their chairs, finally giving you a path to get to your seat. You sat in the middle, so Nathaniel made sure to wait for you to sit before he sat down, to which you gave a grateful nod. Miss Bustier took attendance and you noticed Jaku was called Jake instead. He had also introduced as Jake, too. Was Jake his real name or Jaku...?

Lessons started, and Jake completely ignored you. You decided he was just focused on his studies. You noticed he was scribbling down something in a separate book. You assumed they were notes for class. What a dedicated student.

Eventually, classes ended and it was break time. Jake turned to you before you could get up and leave.

"Hey, Y/N! It's nice to see you again!" He smiled. You nodded.

"Yeah, same to you..." You replied with a smile.

"Wow, I can't believe there's a model in our class... You should have told me!" He laughed. You tilted your head in confusion, to which he furrowed his eyebrows. "Y-Y'know... Adrien? Adrien Agreste??"

"Ooohh, right... To be honest, I forgot about him being a model for a second..." You laughed. He did the same.

"So you see him as a normal kid? Does that mean you're close?"

"Uhmm... Not as close as I am with any other kid in this class, but I guess you could say that. And yeah, I see him as a normal, anime-obsessed kid." You laughed. He raised an eyebrow.

"Anime, eh?"

"Ah, yeah. On his first day he stood up for the register shouting 'Here!' because that's what they do in Japan!" You laughed. Jake smiled.

"So he likes anime. That's cool. Do you like it too?"

"Yeah, I watch some occasionally. Though I've got a lot of unfinished series..."

"Any recommendations?"

"Ah, yeah! The ones I think you should watch [Anime] and [Anime]! I'm still getting through them, but Adrien's already watched them both. We don't talk about ones that one of us have watched, just to be wary of spoilers." You laughed.

"Hmm, okay. I think I'll watch those." He smirked.

"Oh, okay." You spoke, your eyes widening. No one really took recommendations from you... You smiled. It was nice to have a friend like this...

A few weeks or so had passed by now. You and Jake had become good friends. He even came to your house a couple of times.

Honestly, you were happy. You had someone who didn't abandon you for their closer friends because you were the close friend. That made you happy. Jake seemed to talk about Adrien a lot, for some reason, but you guessed he was secretly an Adrien fanboy.

"Hmm, do you want chili chips or lightly salted?" Jake asked as he inspected the vending machine. You had given him some money to choose a snack, so he was asking you to pick something to get so you could share, "Oh, or you can get a drink. But then we can't share."

"Oh, I'm okay with [Chips flavor you don't like]," You replied. They were Jake's favorite.

"Hm. Let's get those, then." He smirked. You both walked over to the nearest bench and sat down. You shared the bag of chips. You took less, since you weren't a big fan of the flavor.

"Hey, what do you say to coming over to my house today?" He asked with a smile. You nodded.

"Sure, that'd be great! My schedule's clear." You smiled.

"Hmm... Hey, how about we bring another person? The more the merrier, am I right?" He smiled. You were surprised. Usually, he only wanted to hang out with you... But you were happy he was getting other friends. Before you could agree, he spoke, "Hmmm... Oh, how about Adrien? Come on, introduce me! You two are friends, right?"

He started to drag you over, throwing the half-full bag of chips away. You paid for that... Oh well; it didn't cost much. You stuttered, "U-uh, yeah, we are..."

You both stood in front of Adrien, who had just been walking to the library. He smiled with a wave.

"Hey, Y/N. Jake, right? I don't think we've met." He smiled, holding out a hand for Jake to shake.

Jake took his hand with a smile, "That's right. You're Adrien, correct?"

"That's right."

The two then started to talk about classes, and Jake eventually got to the subject of Adrien standing up on his first day.

"H-Huh..?! How did you know about that??" Adrien paled, his eyes widened. Jake pointed a thumb to you with a smirk while you chuckled awkwardly.

"I-It was too good not to tell him..." You laughed. Adrien let out a sigh, smirking.

"Really, Y/N?"

"Sorry~"

"Haha, you know, I actually did the same thing on my first day in another school," Jake spoke awkwardly. Your eyes widened. He hadn't told you this... "Watched too much anime~"

"Haha, same!" Adrien laughed.

Jake had watched anime before you told him about it...? Why hadn't you heard of it? Maybe he did tell you and you forgot. Yeah, that was likely...

"Hey, what do you say about coming over to my place later today? I know you've got a busy schedule and all, but do you think you could fit in a little time to come over?" Jake smiled.

"Hmm, let me check my texts... Nathalie should have sent me my schedule..." Adrien spoke, checking his texts. His eyes widened.

"Oh, my schedule's totally clear. I still have to be back by eight, but I'm completely free for today..." Adrien spoke with wide eyes.

"That's great! We'll see you later today!" Jake smiled brightly. "Hey, give me your phone. I'll put in my number so we can text later. I'll tell you the location then."

"Okay!" Adrien smiled.

Once they had exchanged numbers, Adrien walked off to the Library while you and Jake headed back to the vending machine. Jake hummed happily with his eyes closed as he walked. You decided not to disturb his moment of satisfaction. He got another bag of chips from the vending machine and sat down on the bench, crossing his legs and opening them up. You stared at him, confused. He cracked open an eye to glance at you.

"Hm? What is it?"

"You had change...? I thought you didn't?" You asked in confusion. That's why you lent him money in the first place...

"Ahh, I just found some in my pocket. Sorry~ Here, have some chips as an apology." He smiled, leaning the bag over to you. You politely refused and sat next to him as he munched on his chips happily. You wanted [Fav flavor] chips...
