At lunch that Monday, Elisabeth sat at her usual table with the other girls and their boyfriends. Nash and Caroline were telling them all about their amazing weekend. Cameron came up about 5 feet behind Elisabeth.
After a few long seconds, he found the courage to talk to her. At the final second, Jack took the last seat next to Elisabeth.
"Hey! what's up?" Jack quickly asked. He gave a mean look at Cameron, then turned back. "Well, you just sat next to me," she looked at Cam,"and now, I'm gonna go talk to Cameron!"
Jack felt worthless, then realized he needed to make his move. Cam and Elisabeth were talking about their math project they were doing together. All of a sudden, Jack came up and butted in,
"Hey Elisabeth, wanna go to a checkers game Saturday with me, Caroline and Nash? It will be a double date!" Jack looked at Cam,
"Sorry it wouldn't be a double date if the substitute came along." Is that really what Jack thought of Cam? A substitute boyfriend?
"Sure! Sounds like fun!" Jack and Elisabeth walked away. Cameron had to go to that game.
