"The area is patrolled remember" I told Helios under my breath nervously, this was wrong, extremely and stupidly wrong, I thought as I shifted the knife around in my bra awkwardly try to make it somewhat comfortable before I went to poke my head around one of those huge, not to mention annoying ass pillars that seemed to be dotted in such absurd places; that were just unnecessary. I only saw glimpses of white until the air was knocked out of my lungs by none other than Helios's fucking hand slamming into chest; fuck sake I had a knife pushing into my chest and Helios himself had a mother- shitting blade in his hand and it was up pressed right against my neck, the tip brushing against my cheek. The metal felt like it was about to burn me like a hot poker stick, stabbing me through my windpipe. Did the he forget how sharp that metallic edge was?! Fucking idiot. "I can see that. Be quiet" He grunted in almost a whispered back to me. I rolled my eyes, unworthy must be printed on my forehead or something been everyone seemed to treat me like that around here. Huffing, I pushing him off me and stepped slowly backwards. "Two in front, five to the left and two paving the stairs, such an inconvenience" He muttered clearly irritated, I gathered he meant guards. Well, I guess that was game over. I mean it's not like we could go up to them and be like 'hi, do you mind if we pop in and look through all the private research so we could possibly screw your army over, yeah something tells me that wouldn't end well. "Stay here a moment, child" He continued firmly as he swiftly put the blade back in its pouch before just causally walking around the pillar, was the guy a lunatic? Or just plain suicidal?! My chest tightened, my breathing losing control becoming raspy. We were done for; how could I have risked my life for this idiot?! I squatted down to my knees and put my hands over my head in hopes to prevent having an anxiety attack, we were dead. Minutes felt like hours that I was there cradling myself in a ball, just running through what my life would now be like when the guards would find me. "Alright, come on child. I haven't got all night" Helios called suddenly, he sounded just as out of breath as me. Shock coursed through me as I lifted my head up to see Helios panting and he waved me over. Bracing myself I pushed up before twisted round to see all the guards on the floor, face down. I rushed over instantly to where Helios now was, I didn't know what to do, I wanted to help them but my heart begun getting caught up in my body... were they... did Helios... "Helios! You killed them!" My voice broke, I was shaking furiously, tears in my eyes as I zoomed down to the first guard in front of me; he was young maybe only 19 or 20 at most with cropped short brown hair and pale white skin, he did have the faintest of freckles along his nose and by his lips, he looked so peaceful. "Oh calm down, I didn't kill anyone. I knoc-- I put them to sleep and it was extremely hard to do at that, may I add, I had to choke them unconscious after wiping their minds, they've taken something that blocks them from being compiled so easily if at all... like someone very high up controlling them so other people find it hard to, unfortunately for them I overrule most people in this world" He replied, clicking his tongue at the end before giving a light chuckle like we were just having a chat about the weather. On the other hand, my body heaved a sigh of relief when I had confirmation of his word and I barely felt the faint pulse in the guard's neck that appeared when pressed my two fingers into his skin. "Like the Dean?" I asked, stretching up and brushing my legs off after I now didn't need to yell at him for scaring me like that but I was unsure if I really wanted to know the answer or not, it all seemed to lead further down the rabbit hole of pure darkness. "Hm yes, or your Sentinel" He confirmed with certainty; his eyes were cold and empty. This was whole thing was lot bigger than I thought. I raised my eyebrow at him, hooking my hip up while folding my arms over my chest trying to ignore the fact he mentioned Stephan, I really didn't want to think he would do that, I know he could but... my mind drifted back to the day this all happened, Stephan had done this to me, he had compelled me to go to sleep as well. Gulping, I relaxed my body and looked away from Helios as I knew he would have the told you so face on. Looking back to the almost lifeless bodies it made the guilt all the more real, it didn't feel right leaving them there, it was Alexis and Lucas all over again. I couldn't do anything but run again. "Why bother putting a lock code on the door, so naïve. I expected more Sentinel Michel" Helios muttered under his breath to himself, totally unfazed by what he had just done. I was just glad he didn't rub his victory in my face because I'd probably cry at this point but he seriously needed to stop saying Stephanos name in such a patronising way because it was starting to piss me off now, Stephan wasn't a bad guy so he needed to get out his head and now it was time to proof it. My eyes shifted to his hands, watching as he covered his hand just underneath the door handle, it clicked twice. He was undoing the electronic locks from the inside? How was that even possible? But then just like that the door open backwards, like someone was inviting us in. My nerves begun kicking me again before I forced my feet to unstick my from the flooring and cautiously follow after Helios, minding my step around the guards. It was an eerie darkness where the moon shone through the windows and almost looked like my science lab back in Nevada City High School, apart from the crazy number of computers and paperwork everywhere and whiteboards covered in what seemed to be important scribbles and equations my brain couldn't even begin to comprehend. Along side the other room was a desk, bigger than the other ones with two computer screens and a telephone with it but that isn't what drew me to it, on the wooden side of the desk was bronze coated plaque, Michel. It was Stephanos's desk. I began to move almost too fast for me to realise and I stared at the paperwork on his desk, there were far more than on the other desks. What was I expecting? He was the head of it all of this, course he'd have the most work. I ran my eyes over the paperwork, stuff about diamons sprang up everywhere; like how they didn't go down to the underworld, they went to Tartarus and would continue feeling the pain of how they died over and over again while doing work... forever. It was torture in the worst degree. "Check the draws. They wouldn't leave important documents in plain sight, are you an idiot? We haven't got all night" Helios spat, looking at me with curious eyes, in other words my emotions were getting in the way. I forgot for a second that he could feel everything I could and the walls came up again. I gave a quick nod and moved onto the drawers on the other side of Stephanos's desk, the first one was small and had things like gum, staples, scissors and other pieces of crap, nothing useful. Oh man, it felt so wrong rummaging around in Stephan's desk like this, especially without him knowing and I couldn't actually believe I was doing this. Pushing away my guilt and focusing back on the task in hand, I continued to searched my hand towards the back, hoping to just find more stationary equipment until my hand skimmed over something that felt like a polaroid; it was smooth but almost sticking to my fingers as I pulled it out. It was too dark to make out what is was besides me being correct it was a polaroid. Squinting I held it against the window next to me to let the light hit it from behind, it made my heart stopped for a second when my eyes finally focused onto the photo. "Helios..." I trailed off, my mouth dry and unable to explain what I saw in front of me. I felt Helios come up behind me, I knew because I could feel the cold breeze, ripple down my spine, he always had an icy presence. On the other hand, the photo was clearly taken secretly because it was an in-motion shot... of me. Back in Nevada City and what looked like Alexis but he was cut out, his long black hair the only thing in view but the person was too close to me to be a stranger, his arm was around my neck. It had to be Alexis. We were outside a café that was common in Nevada City and I was smiling, looking in Alexis's direction. I couldn't remember what day this was, me and Alexis went to that coffee shop so many times but I looked younger than I did now and my hair seemed shorter, it had be at least taken about a year ago from the looks of things. "Other drawers now" He replied concerned behind me, I gulped giving another nod, this time I was less confident but I managed to turn around and join Helios, who was now looking through a separate box with two drawers on it underneath his desk, it was if Stephan was almost hiding it, I hadn't even noticed it until Helios had pulled it slightly out; it was a silvery coloured metal and the key was gone but Helios had already sorted that problem and was in the second drawer of the container. It was full of files; Savas, Papadakis, Economou, Stavropoulos, Ioannou, Georgiou, Papadopoulos, and Christopoulos...Leandros. I grabbed it before Helios saw it and begun searching through it, it looked like a personnel file with my date of birth, full name, hair colour, eye colour, height, weight, skin colour... identifying features. "These names all link up with missing people, experimented or dead people" Helios muttered as he had continued to search through each one of the files in there but I could barely hear what he was saying though, I felt numb as I came across more photos like the one in his top drawer, they were all of me back in Nevada City, ones of me in Greek class, walking to Alexis's, outside Alexis's house, outside my house, ones of even me with ex boyfriends and my old child minder, with Lucy doing her art project, me making dinner in my kitchen at home... oh god, there was one of me in my nightwear. I felt so violated as I came across the multiple photos of me clear as day from the view from my bedroom window or actually inside of my room, how did he manage to take these without me noticing? Years worth of photos of me, along with notes of where I was at what time and what I was doing, wearing. I felt sick to my stomach, he had been watching me, Stephanos's had been watching me, Anastazie and Cole's jokes were actually the truth. Being wary of Helios next to me I slipped the photo of me and a cut off Alexis in my pocket along with the revealing photo of me into my back jean pocket because no on one should being seeing that photo of me without my permission. After that I forced myself to look through the rest of the file, making sure to see everything Stephanos had been doing in regards to me and to make sure there were no more exposing photos of me until it changed, test results. Then my stomach dropped along with the file, right before my knees buckled to the floor. I couldn't breathe, my heart had completely stopped now. Tears spilling down my face as I trembled myself into a hug. It couldn't be true. "Child, what is it?! What did you find?" Helios told me hurrying down to my level, one hand on my back another rooting through the paperwork scrambled across the floor. Without hesitation my hand shot out and pointed at one of the papers with the test results on. And just like me I heard Helios's breath grow sharp as I began to sob, how could Stephanos not tell me something like this? My world as I knew it was crashing around me, my memories becoming fuzzy like they were all becoming swallowed up in a whirlpool. "Shit, I fucking knew it!" He cursed, slamming his free hand on the floor causing some of the desks to even move from the tremors racing through the floor. Everything was making sense now, Helios's questions back in the Dean's office about my Mother, all the questions Helios asked I now had the answers to, he had figured it out. Worst yet The Dean knew...Stephanos had known. All this time, everyone had known the truth but me. Helios was right, it had all been lies.
