you dawned your apple green headphones
and ignored the world around you
so you could live in your own.
you listened to sad songs,
of heartbreak, drug addiction and
domestic abuse. they reflected
the life you didn't have.
the violin strings imitated your tears,
the subtle trill of piano keys mimicked
your shaking hands and the velvety vocals
impersonated your sad sad heart.
these songs only made you sadder, but
you persisted in listening to them, because
you liked the sadness it brought. because it
gave you a reason, a small reason to be sad.
an answer, when I asked you, why you were crying.
