"Mr. Jamison. We need you to come to the hospital. Your wife has just arrived at the hospital in an ambulance. She was in a terrible accident and has been rushed into immediate surgery." He slammed the phone down and grabbed the nearest paper and pen and frantically scribbled a note for his assistant to find. He ran out the door with his cell phone gripped in his hand, determined to be there for his beloved wife. Mr. Jamison dashed into the elevator, through the lobby, and out the door. Hailing a cab was hard at this time of day. Trying, he had no luck, so he took off. He ran, faster than he ever believe possible. Within twenty minutes he had arrived at the hospital. Out of breath and filled with worry for his wife, Mr. Jamison dashed into the hospital and to the front desk. "May I help you sir?" A soft spoken nurse asked him. "My wife...I got...a call from...this hospital...she was in...an accident," he said in between breaths. Her eyes widened, "Ah, yes sir, Mrs. Jamison? Yes I'll show you the waiting room for surgery." Motioning for him to follow they took off down the hall.

"Ma'am? Can you tell me what happened? You hadn't even asked what her name was. You knew right away," Mr. Jamison asked with a hurting heart. "Sorry sir. She um, she was crossing the street with a few friends and a car came hurtling through the intersection. Her friends died on impact, she was hit and flung. She hit another car and caused that one to get into a wreck. The original car had continued and t-boned another car and that caused an even bigger multi-car collision." Finally they arrived to a room full of chairs, "Please sir, sit here and get some refreshments. The surgery may take a while," the soft spoken nurse walked away and left him in the waiting room.

Six hours later, Mr. Jamison heard his name being called. He looked up to see a doctor standing in front of him, "Mr. Jamison? Your wife is now out of surgery and has been moved to a recovery room. You may sit in her room and wait for her to wake up. When she wakes up we'll evaluate her and see how the surgery went." Mr. Jamison nodded. A little weight had been lifted off his chest but he still had this hole in his gut. He felt as if something bad was going to happen. He found the room she was in and went to sit by her bed. Seeing her covered in bandages broke his heart. His lovely wife all bruised and hurt. He promised that she'll never get hurt and now his promise had been broken.

After an hour, she finally woke up, "Marty?! Are you there?! I cant open my eyes and I'm in such bad pain!" He jumped out of his chair and ran to her bed, "Honey! Honey, it's okay. I'm right here. Calm down, you were in an accident. You got out of surgery an hour ago and your face is swollen. You won't be able to see until the swelling goes down. Now, calm down, I have to go get the doctor so he can check on you." He kissed her head lightly as to not cause her anymore pain and went to find a nurse. Finally finding one be told her that his wife had woken up and was in bad pain. She nodded and called for the doctor as he went back to his wife's room. When the doctor arrived he started examining and asking Mrs. Jamison questions, after thorough examination he excused himself from Mrs. Jamison, "Mr. Jamison may I speak to you?" Marty nodded and followed the doctor outside the room right as a nurse walked in with some painkillers for his wife.

"What's wrong doctor?" He asked wearily. The doctor took off his glasses and cleared his throat, "I am afraid that the surgery didn't do much. Her organs had lost too much blood and oxygen and are shutting down rapidly." Marty felt a pain shoot through his heart. "How long will she live?" He asked with a shaky voice. The doctor frowned, "I'm not sure, but right now all we can do is keep her comfortable and pain free until she passes." Years started tumbling down his face, "Thank you doctor." The doctor have him a grim nod and walked away. Marty took a few minutes to cry his eyes out in the hallway before going back into the room to face his wife. He didn't dry his eyes since she wouldn't be able to see him anyways but made sure his voice was level so he wouldn't scare her. He wanted to make sure she goes peacefully instead of worrying about dying.

He walked back into her room. "Honey is that you?" Her frail voice called out. "Yes darling it's me," he answered. "What did the doctor say?" He paused thinking of what to tell her, "He said that you'll feel better in no time." "Oh, that's good news. That pain medicine they have me is working quite well. It is also making me a bit sleepy. I think I'll take a nap." She rambled on for a bit. "Goodnight sweetheart, I love you so, so much," Marty kissed her forehead lightly. "And I, you. Goodnight Marty." Shortly after she fell asleep so did he. Be was exhausted after what happened today.

A few hours into the night, Marty heard a lot of voices and commotion in the room. Opening his eyes he sees nurses all around his wife's bed and a million more flying around the room, even the doctor was there. Realization hit him and he shot out of the chair he was just asleep in, "What's wrong?! What has happened to my wife?!" One of the nurses flying around stopped with a somber look on her face, "She flatlined,  Mr. Jamison. We are doing everything we can to bring her back. Can you please stand back so the nurses can get to her?" He started crying as she was speaking and stepped out of the way. After a few minutes of trying, she still wasn't responding. Everyone stepped away from the bed and called her time of death. They filed out of the room, the doctor being the last one. "Doctor?" Marty stopped him. "Hmm?" "Was she in pain?" The doctor shook his head, "No the medicine was still working." Marty nodded, "Thank you doctor." Once the door was closed be broke down, falling on his knees and crying to the heavens. Be lost his love. His one true love. His soulmate.
