Chapter 9: Return of the Caveman Pt. 1

~Amanda's POV~

I was on my way to the base with my bag in hand with all my necessities. I looked around to make sure that the coast was clear before twisting the tooth of the T-Rex head before jumping in and going down the slide to the base. Shelby texted me earlier that Mrs. Morgan had something to show us and that she was really stoked to have someone else stay at the base with them, plus Mrs. Morgan said she wanted to show us something. I entered the base with my bag slung over my right shoulder as everyone turned towards me and I let my emergem fly to the crystal bed to charge up, "Morning everyone!" I say cheerfully as I place my bag against a table. 'Morning' and 'Good morning' and all of that is heard as I come next to Riley as I smile sweetly at him while he smiles back. I notice the guys smirking as I turn towards them, "What?" I ask curiously. "Oh, nothing." Tyler replies chuckling. I take a glance back towards Riley and see him rub the back of his neck avoiding eye contact as I shrug my shoulders brushing it off.

Suddenly Mrs. Morgan brings over some kind of dino motorcycle. "What is that?" Shelby asks surprised and curious as everyone looks over and notices it as well while we gather around it well except for one person. I look around the room as I count whoever isn't here, "Where's Koda?" I ask who just shrugs, "Probably doing something in his cave." Tyler responds as I only nod while Mrs. Morgan explains the new vehicle, "This is the dino cycle. I've made one for each of you." Mrs. Morgan says proudly as we stare in awe. "Can we turn on the engine, see what is sounds like?" Chase asks as he checks the cycle out. Mrs. Morgan nods as she starts up the cycle as it makes a motorcycle noises. "Nice work, Mrs. Morgan." I say smiling at the amazing work. Chase messes with the handle as he makes it 'vroom' louder. "How many do you have ready?" Chase asks eager to get on one as I chuckle amused. "I just need to add the finishing touches and then they're set to go." Mrs. Morgan says as we admire her work. Suddenly Koda comes out of a cave area holding a sturdy stick like it's a club as we look wry and confused at him, and might I add, a bit fearful. "Sorry! We didn't know you were sleeping." Mrs. Morgan says putter her hand up trying to calm Koda down. "Kendall," Shelby starts only to receive a death glare from Mrs. Morgan, "Mrs. Morgan, was just showing us our new dino cycles!" Shelby exclaims as she moves out of the way. While Shelby was explaining to Koda I couldn't help but giggle as I watched Riley look a bit taken back by Koda's antics as he reached for Chase's arm, then Tyler's before finally crossing his arms. I lightly shove him with my arm smirking as Riley rolls his eyes but smiles a bit. 'Can't say I'm not taken back as well though.' I think to myself.

"Come on over. Take a squiz." I hear Chase say as me, Riley, Shelby, and Tyler look over at him with questioning looks, "A squiz?" we all question, confused raising an eyebrow. "A squiz, you know, a look?" Chase responds looking around the room. Riley slowly nods his head. "Riiiiiiiight." I say as we all just stare at him confused. Chase throws back his head and groans walking to the other side of the cycle, "Sometimes I wonder if I'm speaking English." I hear Riley chuckle next to me, "Me too." he responds as I nudge him with my elbow giving him a 'really?' look while Chase just stares at him forcing a smile, "Take 'a look', Koda," Chase responds so his hand is on the seat while his other hand is on one of the handles, "It's got everything from laser blasters, to energy stares, most importantly," Chase says as he hops on, "I look really good on it." he says lastly really cocky as I roll my eyes but quickly back up as he makes it 'roar' to life as he brings it up on its back wheel causing all of his the quickly back up and Koda to smack his stick or club onto the front wheel as we let out surprised noises, "Relax!" "Easy!" I hear Shelbs and Mrs. Morgan say at the same time as everything calms down for a moment, "Koda, it's okay." I say in a calming and soothing voice even though I'm still shook up on about what just happened and why Koda is acting like this. "Sorry. My instincts say danger." He says still holding his stick. "When we hang out today, we really need to talk." I whisper to Riley as he nods. Shelby scoffs as she rests a hand on Koda's shoulder. I couldn't help but notice Tyler with his fists clenched but quickly un-clenched as I let out a small giggle. "What?" Riley whispers to me as I just shake my head, "Tell ya later." As he nods back.

"No apologies, I totally get it. Where your from anything that makes a strange sound is threat." Shelby says totally understanding.....untiiiiiil her phone rings and Koda brings his stick over and smashes it sending it flying acoss the ground leaving us with our mouths open shocked and surprised. I notice Shelby's the last one to react as she walks over to where her phone WAS letting out small amounts of distressed noises. "I'm sorry, Shelby, I-" Koda starts off sincere only for Chase to butt in with a smirk on his face, "No apologies, mate. She totally gets it." he says as Shelby makes a face back as I slap his arm with my hand. "Ow!" He exclaims looking at me surprised and as I cross my arms while he stands up so he's not leaning on the cycle anymore while I hear Riley and Tyler silently chuckle. Mrs. Morgan then comes to his side, "He's grown accustomed to morphing into a ranger but-" she starts out while Koda finishes, "Some modern things still give me....nervous?" he asks trying to find the right words as I nod in complete understanding........kinda. Chase nods his head as he walks over and places an arm around Koda, "Look, you just need a few pointers." Chase starts as he leads Koda towards the exit, "I've ridden everything from roller coasters to Kangaroos. If anybody can teach you how to ride, it's me." Chase says finishing before the Kangaroo part catches Riley's attention along with mine, "Woah, woah, woah, wait a second, your from New Zealand right?" I ask as Chase nods his head confused. "There aren't any Kangaroos in New Zealand, those are in Australia." Riley says crossing his arms. "And Papua New Guinea." I add standing next to Riley. Chase just scoffs, "Ah, details. Let's just give it a go." he says as he leads Koda out of the base. We go back to examining the cycle.

"Amanda." Mrs. Morgan says calling my name as I walk over to her, "What is it?" I ask. "I've finished with making your dino armor charger, it should be able to work." she says handing it to me as I nod, "Thanks, Mrs. Morgan." I say happily as I take it and put it in my pocket. "I'll be heading out for a bit." I say as I walk over and grab my dino chargers and energem. "Okay, we'll stay here and help Mrs. Morgan with the finishing touches on the dino cycles." Shelby says as she walks over towards Mrs. Morgan while Tyler nods. "I'll come with. We haven't hung out in a while." Riley says to me as he grabs his chargers and energem and exits out of the base with me.

We walk around and enter the park. "What does Koda mean by modern things?" I ask Riley as we walk around the park. "Well, you see, Koda's a caveman." Riley responds. "Really? A caveman?" I ask raising an eyebrow. "Yeah. Once you bond to an energem you stop aging." Riley says as I look at my necklace, my orange energem. "That's really something." I say as I look at it before we keep walking in silence. "Also, What were you laughing at?" Riley asks looking down at me since he's a few inches taller than me, "I was laughing at how Tyler acted when Shelby confronted Koda. Honestly those two would be a cute couple." I say amused. I hear Riley mutter as I look towards him as he runs his hand through his hair and starts turning a bit...pink? I brushed it off as we kept walking. Our hands brush a bit as I blush but take a glance at him as he looks away. I look towards the side but smile as I feel Riley holding my hand as my face heats up.

~Riley's POV~

I listened to Amy and how she said that Tyler and Shelby would be cute together as I thought about it and agreed but also muttering quietly, "We could be just like them or more." I decided to make a move and grasp her hand in mine. I took a nervous glance to her and saw her smile shyly. 'Maybe she feels the same about me.' I thought hopefully as I was about to lace fingers with hers until some shouts and screams catch out attention. I notice people running from a certain direction as we look into each other's eyes before nodding. I hated to let go but we had to if we wanted to get to our destination faster. We get to the scene but once we're there we notice a metal monster with what seems to be cages on him as he throws one towards Koda and a boy riding a bike. I watch in horror as Koda and the boy are trapped in the cage and disappear.

~Amanda's POV~

I watched in shock as Koda disappeared in a cage trying to rescue a boy on a bike. I noticed Riley about to walk over but I quickly grabbed his wrist and lead him near the trees and bushes. "What-" Riley starts as I shush him, "We can't go out there, it'll just capture us too. If Chase was with Koda that monster already has him. We need to gather the others and think of a plan." I say to him as he nods and we both bolt back to the museaum, 'Don't worry Koda, Chase. We'll rescue you.' I think as we get closer to the museum.
