Act 2 Scene 2

Narrator joins chat.

Violet joins chat.

Scoops joins chat.

Tobey joins chat.

Narrator: Now to continue another exciting episode of Wordgirl!

Narrator: Becky has just left Tobey at the school.

Tobey stomps over to Violet.

Tobey: Violet!

Violet turns to look at Tobey.

Scoops turns to look at Tobey.

Violet: Yes? What do you need, Tobey?

Tobey plants himself in front of Violet angrily.

Tobey: How could you be so awful to Becky!? She's the best friend anyone could hope to have!

Violet shakes her head angrily.

Violet: If she's such a great friend, where was she yesterday when I really needed someone to talk to?

Tobey: Look! I'm sorry about anything that's going on in your life right, but you can't always be the first thing on her mind! How do you know that something important didn't come up?

Violet chuckles at herself, turning her head away from Tobey. She snaps it back.

Violet: Because I saw her walk away with you.

Tobey stops, offended and not knowing how to respond for a moment.

Tobey: Okay...we were going out for ice-cream, but when she remembered that she was going to meet you, she left immediately and went to look for you.

Violet flashes an apologetic face, but quickly changes back to anger.

Violet: Maybe I didn't want her to find me!

Tobey stands there, really not knowing what to say this time.

Violet turns and starts to walk away.

Tobey quickly grabs her wrist.

Tobey: Violet!

Scoops punches Tobey in the face.

Scoops: Don't you ever touch her!

Tobey falls to the sidewalk, holding his eye.

Scoops leads a shocked Violet away.

Narrator: Tobey stays there for a few minutes. He finally get up grumpy and starts to walk to the ice-cream parlor.

Tobey stomps into the ice-cream parlor and sees Becky sitting at a table eating a strawberry come with his melting chocolate chip mint cone on the table in front of her. He walks over to the table.

Becky jumps when she sees him, gasping and knocking both cones off the table.

Becky: Tobey! What happened!?

Tobey sits in the seat across from Becky.

Tobey: Nothing. It's fine. Do you want another cone?

Becky stares at Tobey in shock.

Becky: No! It's not fine! Tobey! You have a black eye!

Tobey shakes his head, standing up.

Tobey: Do I? I didn't notice. Strawberry, right?

Becky shakes her head, worried.

Becky: No! Tobey, I don't want another cone! I want to know what happened to your eye!

Tobey stands there staring at Becky.

Tobey: Well, I want another cone.

Tobey walk to the counter.

Becky watches Tobey walk away, shaking her head, worried.

Tobey comes back with his cone and sits down.

Becky: Tobey--

Tobey interrupts Becky.

Tobey: Becky, please don't ask me about my eye again.

Becky sits there staring at Tobey in shock. She angrily stands up.

Becky: Okay, fine. I'm going home.

Becky starts to walk towards the door.

Tobey quickly follows after Becky, feeling bad. He grabs her hand.

Tobey: I'm sorry, let me walk you home.

Becky jerks her hand out of Tobey's.

Becky: Alright. Let's go.

Narrator: Tobey and Becky walked all the way to the Botsfords silently. Their walk was rather awkward. When they get there, they stop on the sidewalk in front of the house.

Becky turns to Tobey, still angry.

Becky: Bye, Tobey.

Becky she waits for a moment, hoping Tobey will say something, then starts to walk to the house.

Tobey grabs her wrist.

Tobey: Becky, wait. I'm sorry.

Tobey pulls Becky into a hug.

Becky lets him Tobey hug, but doesn't hug back.

Tobey lets her go and waits for her to go back to the house.

Becky looks concerned again.

Becky: Tobey, I really want to know what happened? Why won't you tell me?

Tobey sighs and looks away.

Tobey: I just don't want to talk about it right now.

Becky takes his hands.

Becky: But you'll tell me when you do?

Tobey slowly looks back to Becky and nods, smiling.

Becky smiles.

Becky: Good.

Becky quickly kisses Tobey on the cheek and shuffles toward the house.

Becky: See you tomorrow, Tobey!

Becky walks inside the house.

Tobey stands there in shock, the same way he did the first time.

Tobey: I'm looking forward to it Becky Botsford. I'm looking forward to it.

Tobey smiles and quickily rushes home, not hearing the fight that starts just moments after he left.
