AUTHOR'S NOTE: This one is just super fluffy and I hope you guys like it. I don't know why I'm writing so many imagines that have to do with summer and camping, but it's probably because it's winter and I have serious cabin fever.
The night air was cool, and you breathed it in deeply. It smelled of cut grass and bonfires. After the heat of the afternoon, you were excited to be able to cool down and relax.
"Hey, I was wondering where you went." Steve's voice startled you from your peace, and your head whipped around to see him in the doorway of the camper you were renting with the boys. They had wanted to camping, and so the two of you packed them up to bring them to the little campground a couple of towns over. It was better than them just riding around trying to find what trouble they could get into back home. And after the craziness that you had seen, you definitely didn't want any more insanity. Here, they could catch fish. They could ride their bikes down to the little convenience store and get ice cream or something. And you could maybe get a little reading done.
"Oh hey," you replied with a small smile and pushed your hair back from your face. The boys were in the camper, telling each other ghost stories and talking about what shenanigans they had managed to get into that day. It was peaceful... And you were starting to wish that you never had to go back to real life. "The boys driving you crazy?" You asked, noticing the bags under his eyes and the tired look on his face. Because the guys wanted to give you some privacy, with you being a girl and all, they gave you the one tiny bedroom part of the camper, which left Steve to share a bed with one of them every night, and be kept awake by their whispers. You had to deal with them if they got especially loud, but it wasn't loud enough usually for you to hear it.
"You have no idea," He sighed with a grumpy look on his face and poked at the campfire with a long stick. "I swear to god that my back is bruised from Dustin fucking kicking me all night." You couldn't even help the giggle that passed your lips at the thought of him just laying there, all pissed off with Dustin just beating him to death in his sleep. "It's not funny," He whined, but you ignored him.
"I'm sorry," You tried to apologize, but you couldn't seem to keep a straight face. You did genuinely feel bad for him. A week of that wasn't going to feel good. It was only day two. You could only imagine how terrible it was going to be by day five. And you had that whole full sized bed all to yourself. You sighed, biting the edge of your thumb nail as you glanced at him. You could be nice and just share a bed with him. But, you couldn't help but hesitate at what that would mean.
You two had been flirting pretty heavily lately. It was only natural. You guys spent so much time together. He hung out with you at school now, and with it being Summer, you two had managed to spend a lot of time together, making sure that the gang kept out of trouble... But that had all been flirting. It could be written off it got too real to fast or something. But asking Steve to share a bed with you could be taken as a real action for the first time. And you weren't sure if you wanted it to be or not.
"It's fine," Steve said with a shrug and held his hands out to be warmed by the orange flames a few feet in front of you.
"Look, I feel really bad because I have that whole big bed to myself," You confession finally after a few moments of thinking. Steve didn't say anything, just turned to look at you in the dim light. You blushed. "I mean, I'm not asking you to sleep sleep with me. I'm just saying that if you want to actually be able to get some sleep, you can come sleep in it if you want." There. You finally got the words out. You looked at him, trying to figure out if what you said sounded strange or off in any way. But, Steve didn't act like it was out of the ordinary, although you definitely suspected that was a rouse.
"Thanks, I think I'll take you up on that." He smiled at you awkwardly and rubbed his hands on his knees. "It's Better than just being exhausted all day." You chuckled, thinking about how he had mostly tried in vain to nap in the heat of the afternoon. You had walked a mile to the beach and gotten to cool off in the pond, which was probably the much better choice.
"Maybe tomorrow when you actually get some rest you'll have the energy to walk to the beach with us. We've been wanting to see what that hair looks wet." Your voice was light and teasing, and your stomach was fluttering with the easiness of talking to him. It wasn't awkward. It wasn't weird. You didn't feel like you were doing badly in the conversation. Instead you were just existing in it, allowing it to take you wherever it was going.
"Mhmm." He shot back, raising an eyebrow and glancing down at your lips. Or maybe you were imagining that... yeah. That was probably more likely. But still, it shot a sense of electricity across your skin. He looked like he was about to say something else, but the door to the camper opened with a creak, startling the both of you.
"Hey, can we make s'mores?"Hours later and everyone had had their fill. They had all changed into their pajamas, and you were lounging on the bed waiting for Steve to come in so you could see how much bed you had to share. Your bed actually had blankets on it, but that was what your parents had paid for. The camper was far from extravagant, but it had small comforts of home. You fluffed up your pillow a couple of more times before flipping the page in your magazine. The new summer colors were out, and you couldn't wait to get yourself in one of those bikinis. Steve would fucking die if he saw the way you looked in one of those... But your mom would probably never go for it. It was much too revealing.
"I actually think they're already passed out in there," Steve whispered as he pulled the thin door shut behind him. You weren't all that surprised. It had been a long day, and they had done a lot. No wonder they were all exhausted and conked out the minute that their heads hit the pillows.
"They had a lot of fun today," He nodded, a small smile on his face that made your heart beat a little faster.
"I like that they can still be normal kids every once and a while." He murmured, crawling across the bedspread to sit beside you, the closeness making you very aware of how you were sitting. You blushed and sunk a little lower into your pillows.
"Yeah," You placed your magazine on the small shelve beside you and glanced back at Steve. "Are you ready for me to turn the lights off?"
"Just give me a second." He slipped under the covers, his body warming yours almost instantly. "Okay, go ahead." The darkness was comforting, and you allowed yourself to sigh in contentment. It had been such a long day, full of absolutely nothing. It had been a long time since you had allowed yourself to have a vacation, and now the day was ending with Steve Harrington crawling into bed with you! How in the world had you gotten so insanely lucky?
His arm slowly wrapped around your waist, and you froze momentarily before relaxing in his hold. The bed was a little cramped. You would have to cuddle. Not that you really minded, if you were perfectly honest. You could feel the warm firmness of his muscles against you, and you relished the feeling of safety that you found in his arms. The crickets were chirping lazily outside of the mesh windows. The breeze was cool and felt lovely against your skin. Steve's breath tickled your ear, and you knew from the deepening that he had already fallen asleep. Sleepily, you smiled to yourself. Now this was peace.
