I can't believe it has been nearly 10 YEARS since I first wrote The Ascent. It was the result of the 2009 NaNoWriMo ([Inter]National Novel Writers Month) and only the third novel I had ever completed.

Believe it or not, other than a handful of typos here and there, it's never actually been edited. It's pretty much a straight dump of my frantic thoughts as I attempted to write 50,000 words in 30 days. (Right in the beginning of the winter holidays no less...)

I keep promising myself that I will go back and clean it up. I'd like to think that after 10 years I might have improved at least a little bit as a writer. Now that some people appear to have begun reading it, I suppose the time has most definitely come.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for reading, voting, sharing with your friends and, above all, sharing your thoughts in the comments section. I don't get any compensation for this except for you. You are my compensation.

Life only seems to accelerate. It never slows down. I confess I've allowed myself to be distracted by other things. But now that this story is starting to be noticed, I'm determined to carve some time for reviewing/editing it in preparation for either a sequel or some sort of follow-on story set in this universe. (I really want to know what The Gifted Ones are up to!)

I've also got a couple of related stories sitting around in various stages of completion. A piece of a short story about the first encounter with the Cacks, a bunch of notes for a prequel novel about how a bad(ish) man does a good deed which ultimately leads to the war with the Cacks. I also have a completed novella about the discovery of a lost colony ship that had fled Earth just prior to the start of the war. It's called Colony of the Dead, so you can imagine how that turns out.

Please keep reading and sharing and commenting. If nothing else, it will remind me to get back to writing. Thanks for everything. We will ascend to the stars again soon!
