"Come on! They're gaining on us!" I called back to the rest of my group. My group consist's of me, my mom, my dad, my grandma, and my grandpa. They run faster behind me until we hear gunshots. I duck behind a car while the rest of my family stands out in the open. I honestly have no idea how they survived this long.
"Come on out Sage" Dad said staring at something. I obey and walk out from behind the car to see a large wall with three people standing on it, all of them equipped with rifles. I see one of them raise her riffle and aim it at me. I grip my pistol in my waistband, not like it would do much seeing I still didn't fully know how to use it. I picked it up off of a dead roamer and never told my parents about it. They only gave me my first weapon last week when we were fighting off a herd. I did good enough for someone who only had a small switchblade, and was shorter than the roamers. I had to kick them to the ground before killing them. I heard the woman shoot her gun but couldn't feel anything. Instead, I turned around and saw a dead roamer a few feet behind me. I nodded at the woman and she gave me a fake smile. I looked at my dad who was talking with another man who had come out from behind the wall. I step closer to the two and hear the man say,
"I see you have quite a group here. We have food, shelter, round the clock protection. You're welcome to join us" A smile spreads across my moms face and she answered for us
"Yes. Please. My parents, they don't have much longer on the road. And my daughter doesn't deserve to be out here"
"Welcome to Woodbury." The man says turning to look at me. I nod and walk towards the gate, helping my grandparents. They were weak, but they would get better here. Maybe this would be a place I could grow up. A place where I could make friends, maybe meet someone, settle down, get married, have kids. I don't know if I would want to bring a child into this world, but we'll see how it goes.
"Michonne!" I hear a female voice shout behind me. I turn to see a blonde girl chasing a black lady with a katana strapped to her back. "Michonne!" She calls again. The woman with the katana on her back harshly turns on her heel and walks towards the blonde girl
"What?" She demands
"Why are you acting like this?" The blonde lady asked her
"Acting like what Andrea? Being hypocritical about this place? Having bad feelings about this place? That's normal!" She spits
"No Michonne, it's not that. Why have you been ignoring me?"
"I thought you would rather spend your time with the Governor, whom you just met, than with me, the girl who saved your ass all winter!" Michonne says before rushing off again. I decided to leave them to their argument and turned around to see people I didn't know. I backed away and bumped into another stranger.
"Hey!" he said turning to me, rage in his eyes. I turned to face the man and saw he only had one of his hands, the other one was replaced by a metal thing with a knife attached to the end.
"Sorry" I mumbled before rushing off to find my family. I found them around the corner, walking like I never even left. I walked behind everybody until we got to a building that held a lot of apartments. We climbed the stairs until we found an empty one. The man turned to us and said
"Here you go. If you ever need me, I go by the Governor" He flashed us a small smile before descending down the stairs again. I was first to walk through the door followed by my grandparents. Mom was about to walk through but Dad stopped her.
"It's only right if I get to carry my wife through the thresh hold" Dad said scooping Mom up into his arms, and carried her bridal style into the apartment. I giggled at them and immediately went to the kitchen. I opened one of the cabinets and saw it was full of canned foods
"Oh my god" I say picking up a can of peaches. I loved canned peaches even before the outbreak started.
"What did you find sweetie?" Mom asks walking into the kitchen. I hold the peaches in her face and say
"Canned peaches!" Mom laughs at me. Maybe Woodbury wouldn't be so bad.
