"I never knew a heartbeat could sound that beautiful"

The day had arrived and to say you were nervous was an understatement. You and Demi were finally going to see your baby for the first time. You never imagined something could be so exciting and so scary at the same time. You pulled your shirt over your head, Demi standing in the doorway smiling at the sight. She was the opposite of you- feeling pure excitement about this, so excited she hadn't slept the night before. "You ready princess?" You took a deep breath and stared at your reflection in the mirror, your heart was pounding against your chest but you nodded your head despite the fears running through your mind.

You two sat in the examination room, Demi was watching you play with your fingers. You felt so nervous and physically ill, you weren't even sure whether it was from the nerves or the morning sickness, either way you were feeling extremely anxious. "Hey. What's wrong baby girl?" "I'm just nervous. I know this is stupid but I keep thinking that maybe I'm not pregnant." She laughed and shook her head before sitting down next to you on the chair and grabbing your hands in hers. "You definitely are Princess. You and I both know that. Don't worry about anything. Everything's gonna be fine." She kissed your forehead before sitting back in the chair and kissing your hands. A knock on the door interrupted your thoughts, the doctor walking in with a smile on his face. He introduced himself and asked you a few questions before sitting down in a chair next to you. Your heart began to race and your eyes began to water, the fear bubbling up in your stomach. Demi's grip on your hand got a little tighter as a sob escaped your lips, the doctor looking down at you and leaning closer to you. "Everything alright?" You nodded your head, the doctor smiled and squeezed your knee before he rested it on there for reassurance. "I know this whole process can be very scary and overwhelming. This is the biggest and most terrifying and beautiful thing that could happen to someone, it's a really big change." You sniffled and hid your face in your trembling hands. "I'm just nervous. This makes me realize how real everything is and I'm a little scared." "That's normal. A really important reminder is that you're not alone is this okay? If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask." You nodded your head and grabbed Demi's hand back in yours, closing your eyes as you told the doctor you were ready.

Your heart was still racing and pounding against your chest but a moment later, everything changed. The once quiet room was now filled with a beautiful sound. The sound made your eyes shoot open.. it sounded like wheels on a train that was moving faster than usual. That was when you realized it was your baby's heartbeat. You removed your hand from Demi's and put it over your mouth as tears streamed down your face. "That's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard." Demi nodded her head and kissed your cheek, a tear falling from her eyes. "I never knew a heartbeat could sound that beautiful. Wow. That's amazing." You smiled as the doctor excused himself from the room, reentering a couple minutes later with a couple photos and some paperwork in his hands. "We'll see you back in a few weeks alright?" You smiled and stood up, grabbing the photos from his hand as Demi laughed and grabbed the paperwork. You two walked out to the car hand in hand trying to predict what the gender would be, all of your fears disappearing for a while as the sound of your baby's heartbeat played through your head.
