Khalil
Madam Sundoe brings me a cup of tea, but I don't drink it. I want some damn answers. She sits down and I open my mouth to speak but she holds her hand up and picks up her cup of tea. She takes a long drink and sit there silently. She then sighs and looks at me as if I intruded on her.
"From the look on your face, I'm guessing Adeya never told you about her gifts. That girl in there, oh she's more powerful that I could imagine. To speak the King's language at her age...Back on the islands, I was a midwife to the royal family. I see a many young babes. But there was one, one that was special. Neziri. Her mother, the Queen had died giving birth to her. But she said before she took her last breathe, that she wanted me to take care of her. So I took the babe and told the king that the queen and child both died. I said nothing and I watched the babe. As she grew, my curiosity did as well. She was what Americans would call a weather witch. Your generation would call her a metahuman. To me, she was a blessing. But then she got sick out of no where. And she infected all of the villagers. So many of them died. But only a few survived. A young girl named Arizi. A sweet girl, she was. She was the good. And A young boy, Zoku. He had the dark in him. And when those two grew old, Zoku...he soiled Arizi's spirit. And with that traumatic event, came a cursed child...."
She smiles and in her eyes I see something that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
"Adeya, she's good, and evil. A vessel of Arizi and Zoku. One spirit fighting the other. Adeya has the spirit of a king and queen. Blood of a warrior, mind of a dictator. She will rule Freeland with my guidance and will cleanse this place of its impurities. All I need is for you to-"
I jump because I didn't see Adeya come up behind, Madam Sundoe. She had stabbed her in the neck and blood was spitting everywhere.
"We...need to leave." She sways and I get up quickly and grab her. She takes a rigged breathe and I hold her so she doesn't hurt herself. I run for the door and look back to see Madam Sundoe.
Her eyes were a pale white and I run us both out of there as quick as possible.
Adeya
I wake up and I look at a scared Khalil. He was sitting far away from me and I look around. "Where are we?" I ask. "In some abandon warehouse. I didn't know where else to go. But you said we needed to leave."
I touch my neck and my head hurts. "Did...did you really die?" Khalil asks me. I look at him. "Yeah, I did. And I don't want to sound emo but I was happy for a second. My mom and dad were there. They were confused, they had asked me why was I with them. I needed to be here to keep everyone safe. And then, it...it got dark. And I saw..." I space out and remember seeing all of the elders that had my gifts. The good ones and the bad ones. They were grabbing at my soul.
The good trying to take me high while the bad was trying to drag me down.
"...I saw some scary shit but the main thing they were telling me was not to trust Madam Sundoe."
