I woke up to a rowdy conversation upstairs.
"Kai." Said the voice I recognized as Stanton my captor. "I would never make a move. I'm well aware of my boundaries." He said loosing his usual jovial tone.
"She shifted for you!" Said a husky voice through gritted teeth. "You watched her clothes rip, you could have easily touched her milky skin or even witnessed the waist I haven't even touched!"
"And for this reason I covered her with your sweatshirt." Stanton explained. I looked down at the grey sweatshirt that had brought me warmth and comfort, latching my small hands onto it. "Please K, just go see her. I saw her eyes when she came in here. She was petrified, I don't even think I've seen someone that skinny before."
"Almost sickly." Sighed the other voice. Causing tears to well in my eyes. I knew I didn't look amazing after years of abuse but hearing it after all that has happened felt ten times worse. "Leave." Mumbled the voice.
"Ok, but man go check on her." Said Stanton as I heard his footsteps walk farther away.

After quite awhile of silence I found myself sitting up in the bed with wide eyes. Who was coming to see me? And on cue I watched the metal door slowly open revealing my attacker from earlier. Although petrified his face was beautiful, and I couldn't help but feel drawn to him. He eyed me with a strange look of confusion, and he almost took on a fighting stance in the doorway. I nervously scooted back, feeling his Alpha mentality. His eyes though, they were beautiful and I could have melted right there before him.
"Hello." He grunted. And I truly felt a ray of sunlight in my gut, I wanted to hear more of his voice.
"Hi." I whisper. The room was quiet as we stared each other down when he advanced towards me. I immediately flinched and shut my eyes tightly, preparing for a hit. When I opened them again I noticed his brow was furrowed. Annoyed with my unwelcoming reaction. He immediately turned around, slammed the door, and left. Leaving me alone again. I looked towards the small window and was surprised to see it was dark. I couldn't help but feel the urge to sleep again. And that's exactly what I did, too tired to even contemplate the odd interaction.

The next morning I woke up to the growl of my stomach. I had last eaten two nights ago and was desperate for food. I then heard a loud shrill. Followed my door swinging open, my eyes went wide and I was shocked to see a small women dressed in a long black dress. Her smile reached her eyes when she saw me. Revealing the smile lines all around her cheeks.
"I really never believed it would happen!" She gasped. "I am Sheridan, ignore my horrible son he can be quite cold at first. Let us get you into some real clothes, and how about a warm meal?" She said, making me feel overwhelmed. I'd never in my life been offered such kindness. And what was she talking about 'never believing something would happen?' Suddenly her smile fell. "Sweetheart you look petrified, please let me get you settled here." I nodded my head, worried if I didn't respond the offer would go away. I slowly eased my body up and followed the women back up to the main floor. "Does this pretty face have a name?"
"Henrietta." I cooed.
"I've heard he's been standoffish." She scoffed as she sat me down on a barstool in front of the kitchen. Pulling out foreign ingredients to whip up some masterpiece.
"He?" I ask shyly. She turns around confused.
"Kai." My eyes went wide. That was the name that matched the man who had attacked me on the stairs. I began to stutter, last nights interaction left me confused. "You are mates." She states. In the back of my mind I had known this, but I guess I hadn't wanted to admit it to myself.
"Yes." I mumble, receiving an odd glance from the women who seemed to be his mother.
"He's never been good at first impressions, ever since he was a boy." She explained. I nodded focusing on the smells of her cooking that filled my nose. "I know you've probably heard he's an awful man. But truly just because he's a great Alpha, he will do anything to protect his pack." The rest of the time was quiet, except for the sound of her cooking. When she was done she presented me with a plate of eggs, hash browns, and crispy bacon. "Enjoy!" She gleamed, as I hesitantly dig into the eggs. As the fork met my mouth I moaned at the taste. Our conversation was non existent as I continued eating. Just as I scooped up a slice of bacon the front door slammed open. I paused and my blue eyes grew wide. "Kai!" Yelled Sheridan.
"Mom?" Asked the familiar voice. Not daring enter the kitchen, most likely smelling my presence.
"Come in son! I brought poor Henrietta up for breakfast. Were you planning on telling me you found you mate? And that you locked her downstairs! I had to find out from Stanton." She ranted. His footsteps slowly made their way into the kitchen. I didn't dare turn around to look at him. But did see Sheridan looking at him with judging eyes.
"Mom, what are you doing?" He growled.
"That's no way to speak to your mother! You know I pushed you out of me." She chuckled. "Ought to say thank you once in awhile. Sorry Henrietta, he really does have awful manners."
"Mom." He huffs a little louder.
"Aren't you gonna say hi to this girl? How long has she been down there anyways." She scowls.
"Just the night." He says through gritted teeth, but she didn't seem the least bit scared.
"Kaiser Adriel Lorenzo!" She fumed. "Is this how I've raised you? You never treat a lady like that!" She scowls, I feel him slightly whimper under her disapproval. "Let alone the one women in this world meant for you!"
"Mother, I cannot weaken myself and this pack by taking on a mate." He says stoically. Finally hitting one of my buttons. I could feel the tears threatening to leak out and I knew at any moment they would. His moms eyes were filled with disappointment.
"I knew you were stubborn like your father, but I never imagined you as someone that would reject a mate. She will die Kaiser, she will die." She said, this time quite calm. I heard his feet stifle but he didn't make a sound.
