"You know you're not suppose to smoke on school grounds.." said Jules.
Alexander turned around to find the frail girl standing in the doorway to the back entrance of the building.
"Aren't you supposed to be in class, Miss Agnes", puffed Alex, smirking through his cigarette.
Jules let out a shy eye roll and approached Alexander. The silence they shared was something both found comfort in. The long shadow of the building shielding them from the rays of early Summer. The soft May breeze gently tugging at Jules' porcelain hair; her dress, dancing with the subtle gusts. Alexander took one last puff before putting out his cigarette.
"You should really quit that habit. Makes you less charming." Jules spoke.
"Well it's a good thing I'm not trying to charm anyone, now is it?" Alexander said as a rebuttal.
The two of them stood side by side, staring at the near cityscape.
"2 years to go" said Jules, in a rather cute tone.
"You'd still be a teen-"
"An adult." Interrupted Jules.
Alexander stood in silence, regretting putting out his cig. At least if he still had it, he could use that as an excuse to hesitate or buy time for him to collect his thoughts.
"You're too young" Alex said softly.
Jules, now pouting, "You always say that."
Alexander chuckled. "Cute" he thought as he pinched Jules' cheek.
"You should show this side to your classmates. Open up your world. There's someone out there. I promise." Said Alexander.
Jules removed his hand and stood firmly facing Alexander.
"If in 2 years, 5 years, 7 years I still feel this way, will you still call me young?" Jules said.
The look on her face looked determined, almost as if she had blocked out what Alexander had said earlier. Alexander looked at the sky and sighed.
"Summer is almost here..." Alex maintained his eyes closed, facing the sky.
"The season I met you in." Alex spoke softly, now looking at Jules.
Jules stood there, butterflies swelling in her stomach. Whether it be 2 years, 5 years, 7 or 10 years, she was willing to wait. Jules closed her eyes and felt the breeze softly kiss her face. She let out a soft sigh, now walking back inside the building.
"Summers not so bad, huh?" She said, cutely smiling as she waved goodbye.
Alexander turned back to face the sky. Clouds slowly passing by.
".... I should really quit smoking."
