Draco's pov:
"Wake up!" My grandmother ordered as she banged on my door causing me to jump awake. "Time for breakfast!" I sighed getting up and threw my clothes on for the day. I doubt they remembered that today was my birthday, not that they didn't care — they just don't celebrate it in a big way. They simply wish me a happy birthday and buy me gifts, they are pretty rich, but I don't care. They never let me go out for some reason. I'm only allowed to roam around the house and backyard. I brushed my teeth and looked at myself in the mirror then turned my head slightly to see my lightening-blot shaped scar behind my ear.
That was the most unique thing about me, not my platinum-blonde hair or my sliver icey-blue eyes, but the scar that was hidden by my hair when I slicked it back. Every time was the same sort when I asked how I got it, "During a cross fire where your parents died, don't ask anymore." my grandpa would say. They didn't like talking about my parents much, they didn't like anything out of what we call ordinary. I told them one time I had a dream about a wizard with long white hair and a flying motorbike and they told me never to speak of it again.
Also, one day when I was actually able to go out for the first time, a man stopped us in the middle of the street and bowed to me causing everyone to stare and whisper. My grandmother was furious and took us home immediately and locked me in my room for the rest of the day. I had to be careful on what I say about my parents, the only thing I remember about that night was a flash of green light and the faint sound of my mother's voice. I slicked back my hair with mint scented gel then went downstairs to the dinning room. "Happy birthday, Draco." Grandpa greeted patting my head lightly.
"Thank you, sir." I replied. "Sit up, boy, don't slouch. Keep your head up as well, you know the rules." He told. What comes with living in a fancy manor are the rules, I have to use the right fork, sit up properly and all that stuff. The only good part about today was they remembered my birthday and called me Draco, they usually call me Malfoy or boy. Not that I minded, that's the one thing I kept that belonged to my parents, my last name. My grandmother placed a plate of food in front of me and I started eating as she pulled up a chair next to my grandfather who was reading the Daily Prophet.
I should probably mention that we aren't entirely normal, you see we're magical folk, or to more detail, we are a pureblood wizarding family that lives in a manor on Wiltshire. Our world is much different to what muggles (non-magical folk) are used to, we still write letters, use quills and parchment and use owls to send them. There are schools that teach us how to use and control it and we go when we turn 11 which is what I'm turning today. I will be going to Durmstrang, a school all the way in Northern Europe.
Just then, our owl, Harold, dropped off two letter on the table. I looked over to see if I got anything from Durmstrang, but all that was there was a beige envelope with a red wax seal on it that had a loin, snake, a bird and a badger on it. That's when something strange happened, I remembered something else about the night of the cross fire, the same exact sign on the letter was on the wall. I gasped lightly then looked back at the envelope. It was written in green ink at read:
Mr. D. Malfoy
Upstairs floor
Second door on the right
Black Manor
WiltshireMy eyes widen then I took the letter and went to open it, but my grandma stopped me by clearing her throat. I looked up at her then she extended her hand and I placed the letter on it. She examined it then gasped and got up quickly. "Henry!" She gasped looking at the man. He looked up and saw the letter and rushed to his feet and snatched it from her hands. "Malfoy, upstairs!" He ordered. This was the only time I've ever spoken back, I just had to know who it was from, "Why, it's my letter. I should be able to read it." "Go upstairs now, boy, before I ground you for a month!" He flared. I got up and went to my room angrily.
