i knew i loved you
the moment i realised
i didn't have to go outside
to see the stars, because
they were always right
there
in your eyes.
i knew i loved you
the moment i heard your
laugh; that wonderful sound
of you experiencing joy
made my heart flutter.
it was like music to my ears.
i knew i loved you
the moment you heard me cry,
and rushed to my side to
wipe the tears away and
hold me until i fell
asleep.
i knew i loved you
the moment i saw you sick
in bed, barely able to speak,
or move; yet when you saw me,
you smiled.
you smiled, and you said,
"i love you."
i knew i loved you
during our final moment;
your hand in mine, suddenly
so small, so fragile as you took
slow, stuttering breaths.
oh, yes, i knew i loved you
when you smiled up at me,
and squeezed my hand so faintly
before those beautiful eyes of
yours shut; before heaven gained an angel.
