LEO FONTAINE: Leo is a young, innocent boy with a bright smile and a bright future. At least, That's what he shows people. Leo lives with an abusive family. After his sister died, his mother refused to acknowledge his existence and his father becomes violent on a regular basis. Despite the pain and anger he goes through, Leo is still very bubbly and happy around his friends, who have no idea what he deals with every day. Leo is generally very quiet, except around his friends, and usually keeps to himself. He's a very mature person, and handles things with a level head, unless they're his own problems.

Jack and Miles meet Leo in their chosen elective, Behavioral Economics, and the three all sit next to each other in the back row of the class. As the boys get to know each other throughout the year, they begin to develop feeling s for each other and become very close. As the year begins to end, the three are put into a group together to work on their final project. Through many visits to their house, Leo becomes increasingly aware of Andre, the brothers' father, and his feelings toward the young boy.
