The walls shake as the dragon smashes his body against the other side of the wall. I press against myself onto Bilbo's chest, and he hugs me close.

"We'll be alright, Thedra. Right?"

He looks at Balin's face for reassurance, but even his face is dark, like the others. Everyone is silent, and all sound existent in the atmosphere are the roars coming from Smaug. Everyone stands still, and I know that everyone is hopeless by now and have no more ideas left. I speak out quietly out of the silent crowd:

"I'll lure him out of here."

Everyones's head turns towards me, and I look over to Thorin, who's eyes were gleaming with suspicion. He must have seen a glimpse of Me and Smaug's conversation, and most definitely when I yelled out his name when he carried me into the tunnel.

"You sure you want to do that?"

Bilbo whispers to me. I look into his glassy eyes and nod. I give him a small smile, just to give him a last comfort, and now to the dwarves as a farewell. All except Thorin bows back at me, and I turn my back onto them, walking towards the tunnel I was carried into from.
