"Intruder alert. Intruder alert."

Ludwig

My hand gripped back on (Name)'s instinctively. Already, multiple plans and scenarios were running through my head. A quick escape was impossible; we were on a private island. Physical self-defense would become necessary. With my fighting experience, I could probably save myself, and maybe a few others while we were at it. Someone would have to call the mainland and send help. We would need to fend them off until other forces arrived.

I stole a glance at the girl next to me, resembling a scared and confused puppy. A brief image of a memory flashed in my mind when I saw her; Berlitz when he was a puppy, cowering in a corner, scared of the vacuum cleaner.

I grit my teeth, mentally preparing myself for the any fight I would have to face.

Vash

I could feel the adrenaline already coursing through my system. My hand immediately reached for the gun that usually rested at my hip in its holster, but then I remembered with a wave of anguish that I was forced to leave it in Switzerland. I was grasping empty air.

Is Lili okay? Where is she? I need to find her. I will protect her.

I knew that if the intruder had a weapon, though, it wouldn't be pretty. People would die. I sprang up from my seat and searched wildly around for my little sister. I would take all of the bullets in the world for her.

Lili

An involuntary scream ripped from my throat when I realized what was happening. My heart pounded like a frightened bunny's. Soon, my eyes were swimming with panicked tears.

Big brother? Where are you?

Matthew

(Name)'s hand gripped mine like her life depended on it. I whispered consoling words to her, hoping it would hide my inner fear. I had never felt more terrified in my life. Me being the nervous self I am, my mind immediately jumped to the worst possible outcomes.

Papa? Papa, I love you. I'm sorry I never said it enough before. I love you.

Alfred

My breath quickened, my fear growing with every time that horrid robotic voice repeated its phrases. I looked around for the exit doors, but realized that the metal sheets were there for protection. No one would be able to get in.

We wouldn't be able to get out, either.

I thought of headlines I had seen on the news. Albany, Georgia; two dead. Marshall County, Kentucky; two dead, eighteen injured. Parkland, Florida; seventeen dead, seventeen injured. Santa Fe, Texas: ten dead, thirteen injured.

I took a shaky breath. I refuse to become another name in a headline.

Emil

What's happening? My head automatically turned to where (Name) was sitting in my row. I could hear the Canadian rep whispering consoling things to her, and was glad she had someone there for her. I tried my best not to let the other's fear get to me; a good part of me was still sure that this was some drill or false alarm or something. I felt a surge of pride for my rational thinking in this situation.

"We are-a going to die!" The Italian in the row behind me sobbed.

Feliks, the Polish representative beside me, was whispering to himself. "We're on a private island. Whoever is here has a purpose, and it wouldn't be a mistake of theirs..."
