I whistled as I worked, cleaning the counters with a damp cloth. Kesarra walked in, no sign of Reese. She was frantic, sobs racking her whole body.
“What’s wrong? Where’s Reese?” I ran up to her, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her. “Where’s Reese, Kesarra?”
“H-h-he was leaning to f-far and I c-couldn’t grab him on time.” My heart broke.
“What do you mean?” He couldn't be dead.
“We were walking on the bridge and I-” Sobs stole her words away.
“Did you call 911?” My voice was a bare whisper. She shook her head and I grabbed mine. Dialing them wouldn’t save our baby boy, they would only be able to receive his now broken body.
