Untamed

I didn't realise that when you asked me to marry you,
You were actually wanting to tame me.
Like the animal that I and all women are-
We must be tamed.
The ring you put on my finger also went around my neck.

My veil was more of a net.
I was caught but I learnt what love is on my own by
Delicately producing words, gliding on the page
Like the sickly honey I am trapped in
But somehow sweeter.

I need someone to read my words and see my soul.
I won't be silent anymore,
You have made sure of that.
I cannot be a mere imitation of the one you idolise.
The shadow extending from my substance.

My past pours viciously onto the paper,
my knees collided with the earth
and somehow, I tore myself from it.
Now I can bear my soul in vivacious words
And you will listen.

I will stand and speak with my own voice and
No man will ever silence me again.
