There's Just Something Sexy About... *8*

The weekend passed by quicker than I planned. Luke's little cousins were as sweet and cute as buttons, each one of them begging for Luke's attention. After we had gotten back from riding, we joined the little ones in a game of hide-and-seek. I don't think I've ever had so much fun.

Granny Jane never told anyone the truth about my dad and brother, and she never said anything when she heard me lie about it if someone asked. I was extremely grateful, but once she did ask me why I lied. I just told her it was a long story and a lot of sympathy I didn't want. She seemed content with my answer.

I was actually dreading going home; I knew I'd quickly miss the warmth, love, and the joy of that atmosphere. But like all good things, it had to end. I said goodbye to everyone on Monday morning (we had Monday off of school) and said one last goodbye to Oreo before leaving.

Now I was home alone again, finishing up Friday's homework. The week had gone by smoothly and Cami and I made up, even though I wasn't really mad at her in the first place. My life seemed to go back to its original rhythm, the way I liked it. Of course, Luke was an exception.

Recently, every time my mind began thinking about that boy, I felt a smile creep onto my lips. He was kind- more gentleman-like than any other man I'd met- and he didn't push me out of my comfort zone if I wasn't willing. Luke was witty and smart, someone who kept me on my toes. He asked a few more times about The Incident, but after I continued to not answer, he sort of gave up. We were seeing each other at school more and to be honest, I was growing quite used to his company. It scared me, but after a while of fretting over it, I just decided that I would just let what should happen happen.

The doorbell rang just as I finished up my last math problem. I bolted from the couch and ran to the door, trying my best not to make the person stand out in the cold too long.

Luke stood there with a heavy black jacket when I opened the door. His face instantly lit up, but because the cold was seeping through my gray sweater and jeans, I quickly ushered him inside. Once he took off his jacket, he gave me a sweet hug.

"You'll never believe what I saw today," he grinned. I led him into the living room without a word, waiting for him to continue his story. "Remember that note we left Mrs. Baklen? The one that said two of their students knew of their affair?"

I couldn't help but smile as I took a seat on the couch. Luke was still standing in front of me, looking down at me. "Yeah," I laughed, "I remember perfectly!"

"Well, I know they have yet to say or do anything during school, but I caught them arguing after swim practice. Mrs. Baklen is scared that- and I quote- "the student could destroy everything!" Mr. Marcus was telling her not to worry, that "they were just trying to mess with us." Well, I heard them go back and forth, and when they were done, they said that they'd have one student deliver a message each day, and if they ever got another note, they'd know who it was!"

I didn't quite get the last part. "Say that again?"

Luke let out a huff. "Each day, Mrs. Baklen will have one student deliver a message. If nothing happens, it means they didn't figure it out or even read it. Then she'd have someone else take the note, and keep repeating that cycle. Get it?"

"Yeah, I do," I nodded, "but what does that mean for us? Should we just give up then?"

Luke took the spot next me and when his arm brushed mine, it sent warm pinpricks throughout me. "We could, sure, but why? I know blackmail is low, but we should get something out of this..."

I sat in thought for another moment, trying to hold in my chuckle. "Maybe we should lay low for awhile. Don't get me wrong, though! When they get one of us to deliver the message, we should see what it says, even though we won't act upon it. Maybe we'll think of something soon..."

Luke rested his head on a couch pillow. "Maybe you're right. Hmm...I wonder what we could do, though!" He always sounded like a little kid when he got excited, always making me giggle. He shot me a mischievous glance with a raised eyebrow, making me laugh that much harder. I think this note was becoming our bonding time.

"There's always blackmail," I stated the obvious, "but what could we get out of that? It's gym for Pete's sake and it's not like you're failing Mr. Marcus' class."

"True. Should we get them to think someone else is the person who found out? Or should we just keep feeding them notes, making them think everyone knows?"

"We could announce it to the whole school."

"That's a little harsh, don't you think?"

"Not in my book..."

"I guess it's better than insuring a good grade...So how would we do it without ruining their marriages?"

"I've been thinking about that," I turned to him, "and I've come up with this: what does it matter? Obviously they shouldn't be cheating on their spouses, so in the end, wouldn't a divorce be better? I mean, shouldn't we enforce some justice here? And who knows- their spouses might not ever find out!"

Luke put his arm around me, pulling me close. I'd grown used to his affection in the last week, and no matter how much I told myself not to like it, I couldn't help it. I liked the way he showed me he cared; he was giving me the attention I hadn't received in years. And despite all my efforts in guarding my heart all this time, I let myself curl up next to him, enjoying the comfort of his body.

~*~*~*~

I think it was the light drumming of his heart that had lulled me to sleep, the warmth of his body covering me like a fleece blanket. But whatever caused me to fall into a blissful dream in Luke's arms didn't really matter because he was shaking me awake soon after.

I opened my eyes slightly with a groan. I looked up and saw Luke smiling sleepily down at me. "I think it's time for me to go," he whispered against my hair.

I wanted to tell him to stay, to keep me company after all these lonely nights. But I didn't want to sound needy, nor did I want to give into him so completely. Instead, I just nodded my head and sent him on his way after giving him a quick hug.

I was walking up the stairs to my room when the phone rang. Trotting back down, I picked up the phone.

"Yes?" I asked with all the sleepiness of before leaving my body.

"Hey sweetheart- it's me, your Aunt Marcie!"

I knew that angelic, soft voice anywhere; she didn't need to tell me it was her. I smiled. "Hey! It's been a long time...What's up?"

"Well, I know how much your mother is out of town, so how about you come spend this weekend with me? I know spending time with your aunt isn't the coolest thing, but-"

I cut her off before she could babble much longer. "I'd love to, Aunt Marcie. When do you want me to come?"

I heard her squeal on the other end. "Oh good! This is going to be fantastic! And whenever you want to, sugar pie! I just can't wait to see my favorite niece!"

"I'm your only niece," I chuckled to myself. Aunt Marcie just let out a sing-song laugh, and after saying our goodbyes, I jogged upstairs to go pack. I figured I would just leave tonight so we had the whole weekend together.

~* Again with the filler chapters! Hahaha- sorry about my boringness! But I promise that this chapter becomes important later on, just not now. I also figured I would talk about the note thingy as well, especially when I had nothing much to write in the first place! Anyways, the next chapter will- hopefully- be up soon! *~
