Winter Sunshine

I remember how those words

resounded themselves in the room

long after you had said them

I sat there in shock

Holding you so tightly

I couldn't let go

Every corner and crooked edge

of every wall in the room

replayed that lingering echo

Like a sunny storm after winter snow

My voice went silent

My heartbeat raced

my lips quivered and my body trembled

In effect of those three simple words

The darkness in the room

was swallowed by a magical light

and as I watched you while you slept

my lips curved into a smile

and my heart responded

Even though I knew

you had succumbed to slumber

two voices danced in the rhythm of their discovery

And I fell asleep beside you

Dreaming of a future that until that moment

had been nothing but a hazy blur
