Lauren

I rolled my eyes, letting his lanky ass in my house. Cam has been sleep since I got home. My brother says he wore him out playing flag football earlier. I gesture toward the couch and we both sit on opposite ends. I turned my body towards him, tucking my feet under me.

"So why did you feel the need to see me at 3 in the morning?"
"I didn't want to leave shit like it was. I saw you with ole boy and I got some bad information. And I acted on it. I'm sorry, Lauren."
"Mmm-hmmm. From now on, if you want to know something, ask me."
"No doubt. So you accept my apologize?"
"We'll see. You gotta work a little more."
"I ain't mad at it. But if you don't mind me asking, what's the story with ole dude?"
"Trey and I met like 4 years ago through mutual friends. I'd just ended things with Wayne like a year before and I had my son. We started talking and we got into a relationship but I wanted to keep things low key. And I feel like he used that to his advantage to do whatever he wanted. He was a serial cheater and I just got tired of it. Now he keeps harassing me to take him back but that's not what I want."
"I mean, people do change. You ain't even going give him another chance?"
"No. I've given him several and he's screwed them all up. And no offense, I want a man. A REAL man. The type I don't have to worry about or keep having to check. I wanna know he's mine just as much as I'm his."
"I can understand that. I think that's what a lot of us want at this age. A bond and an understanding."
"So I've thrown a bone out of my closet. What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Any women at home I need to know about?"
"Naw man. I haven't really been in a relationship. My last one was like two years ago with my daughter's mother. We didn't really mesh well but I'll always have love for her."
"Right. Wayne and I are the same way. We're still friends to this day but I could never try to work it out again. That's dead."
"So how old is your son?"
"Cam's 4. He'll turn 5 in September. What about your daughter?"
"Emani actually just turned 7. I've been honestly trying to figure out a way to get her to live with me. Her moms is not doing what she needs to do."
"I'm sorry to hear that. Her and Cam are almost right there together."
"Well, at least they're up in age so when we have their little sibling, they can look out."
"Haha! Wow! So you just gonna claim me having a baby with you?"
"Hell yeah nigga. And not just a baby. Babies."
"Well is there at least a ring in my future?"
"You got that. I already know you wifey baby. Ain't no way around that."

Hearing his declaration made me feel warm inside. A lot of these niggas could never say what he just said and make it believable. But something about him, made me believe everything he just told me.

"Welp, a nigga better slide on home. I just wanted to clear the air so there won't be any friction on our date tomorrow."
"Look at you! Well, I thank you for doing that. It really means a lot."
"Can I have a hug?"
"Sure. But how are you getting home?"
"My Uber should be here any minute."

I got up and hugged him. He's so tall but we fit perfect together. I love how his arms wrap around me and make me feel so secure. And the way his chin rests on the top of my head, this hug is so perfect. He rocks us back and forth before planting a kiss on my forehead. I walk him outside and watch as he flags down the Uber. I waved again before closing my door and locking it.
I went back to my room and threw myself across the bed. My phone dinged letting me know I had a text.

*Is y'all fucking?*
*Really Lika?*
*Me n OT just want to know. Omg! We can double date!*
*Girl, u moving 2 fast! We don't even really know if we like each other like that!*
*Trust me, y'all past like*
*I just wanna take my time with this. I want it to be different*
*Girl, u had Nip stressin' and he ain't even sniffed the cookie yet*
*OMG! Bye Lika!*

I chuckled while getting under my covers. Just as I got comfortable, I heard a little knock at my door. I broke out into a grin.

"Come on in baby!"
"Mommy..."
"What's wrong Pooh?"
"Can I sleep with you?"
"Come on. Come lay with Mommy!"

He came over to my side of the bed and I scooped him up in my arms, showering his cute little face with kisses. Cameron Carter is the best thing that has happened to me. He was unexpected and I was still young but I don't regret him at all. He makes my worst days okay and my best days even better. I don't know where I'd be without him. My little undercover blessing.
