I watched the news spread like wildfire the turbulence of anger was the only thing left on people's minds when the trial went on a hung jury, it was a mistrial and it was only a matter of time when the DA will have to request for a retrial. It was on the news that left people even more confused than pleased.
Everyone was staring at the tv with our boss in the room with us it was only a matter of time when people were going to protest. It was puzzling to acknowledge I rubbed a tear away I had to keep it together, grabbing my sweater on the chair I jogged towards the stairs descending them swiftly.
I scuffled the sweater on watching as Stephanie was making calls to the DA's cell number this was assumed to be a trail that ended with the criminals sentenced. We promised the victim's families that those accountable will go behind bars.
I charged down the street using my vampire speed to make it to the courthouse. The reporters swarmed the lawyers on the mid-stairs, protesters roared with anger with the police officers attempting to calm them.
Staring at the parents standing at the far corner Lily King, Jason Moretti, and other parents glared at the criminals triumphing in victory with reporters competing for questions, "We told you." Marillia Carpenter said looking at the resurgence.
The thick atmosphere surged pulsing through the vicious tension, we stared and heard the backlash that clashed against the police. The entire scene went down with several people being arrested including two parents that attempted to attack the ones liable.
"How could I have been so naive," I mumbled angrily.
All the investigation losing two of my best friends due to this entire scheme felt like an entire waste like it all went to nothing but senseless obstacles. Carpenter breathed out slowly the sun was setting, sending a shiver down our spine, the afternoon clouds kicked in watching the crowd of protesters dispersing.
I glanced at Carpenter with her eyes focused on the people her eyebrows furrowing with her lips frowning that followed with a flare of anger in her eyes compelling me to say, "This isn't over, it's a hung jury. Those parents are going to ask for a retrial."
Carpenter glanced over shaking her head crossing her arms replying, "We need to take down the Supremacy here in New York. If we don't those parents won't get another trial this time, they will lose." Her tone radiated coldness a sliver of knowledge.
I watched her slipping away through the crowd, glancing at the people I observed the conflicted emotions in their eyes. The way they protested for justice I backed off leaving with a thumping headache a residue of tension like a tight band.
Returning to the office was the only answer, this was news that needed to be covered and with several investigations pending I was still involved with a few of them which meant I couldn't leave the state or country till all suspects were ruled out.
The commotion in the office left a few people in despair, pure frustration the Boss had to hold a minor conference that we need to refrain from spiraling into an opinionated tabloid, to stick to the facts. It left us resetting our own moods to concentrate. Stephanie was in and out editing papers left to right while the other two editors came in to assist.
Collaborating with another journalist we tugged and pulled on the knowledge she knew about her article advising her on a few pointers on how to conclude the article. We were in a buzzing mess the secretaries on the first floor were transferring strictly important calls to the Boss while they had to take messages from other people.
