Isaiah sat in his home and looked up at the ceiling as he lay back in his bed.
It had been a few hours since he'd found out about his son. And he still couldn't wrap his mind around the whole thing.
He couldn't sleep and he was feeling a mix of emotions. Sitting up, he palmed his hands in his face and let out a deep sigh.
Suddenly he sprang up, knowing exactly who he wanted to see.
Leaving his house, Isaiah got into his truck and drove to his grandparents home. Using his key to get in the door he was was met with the familiar sound of jazz music playing.
He peeked into the kitchen and saw his grandmother making something. She turned around and smiled at him. Isaiah walked over and kissed her forehead.
"I thought that was you." She smiled. "You're grandfather is in his favorite room. And he's having a good day today."
Isaiah nodded his head at her and left her in the kitchen. Walking into the back room, he saw his grandfather sitting in his rocking chair, reading a book.
"Hey gramps." Isaiah spoke to his grandfather who smiled when he realized who was speaking to him.
"Isaiah...it's nice to see you." His grandfather spoke. "What's going on with you?"
"Well Gramps, you remember Marlee right?"
"Why yes I do. That was a pretty girl Isaiah. How is she?"
Isaiah sighed before answering. "Well, she's fine. And gramps she had a baby and it's mine."
His grandfather nodded his head in understanding. "I see....well son, how do you feel about the situation?"
"Gramps, I feel everything. I'm mad because she didn't tell me. And I'm sad because I've missed six months of his life."
"I understand that." His grandfather spoke. "But now that you know you have a son, you need to be apart of his life. And talk to the girl. Figure out some things."
Isaiah nodded his head in understanding. He knew his grandfather was right. He was just nervous about the whole situation.
"And also," his grandfather spoke getting his attention. "Pray about it. Remember God is always listening."
Isaiah smirked at his grandfathers wise words. He was a retired reverend yet he still had a way of inspiring people. Even though he had Alzheimer's diesase, he never lost his faith.
"Thanks Gramps." Isaiah spoke and he and his grandfather dapped one another up. Isaiah walked into the kitchen and hugged his grandmother goodbye. She gave him a slice of sweet potato pie and kissed his cheek before he left her house.
When Isaiah returned to his home, he went into his bedroom and got on the side of his bed in praying position.
And he prayed to God.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two weeks had passed since Isaiah had shown up at her house and Marlee was still shocked that it had happened.
She replayed the events in her head over and over. She sighed and looked up into the sky.
"God, I don't understand any of this. But I know you do. Please help me out." Marlee prayed.
Suddenly, her doorbell rang and Marlee walked to it, looking through the peephole.
"Hey, Mrs. Jenkins. Is everything ok?" Marlee spoke as she let the older lady into her home.
"No, it's not." Mrs. Jenkins spoke as she walked into Marlee's living room and sat down.
"Well what's going on?"
"You."
Marlee was taken aback. "Me? What are you talking about?"
"Girl, you've been moping around here for a couple of weeks now. And I miss that pretty smile of yours. So are you ok?"
Marlee shook her head no and looked down, fiddling with her hands. Tears came and she wiped them away only for them to be replaced seconds later.
Through her crying, she explained to Mrs. Jenkins what happened. Mrs. Jenkins nodded her head in understanding and allowed Marlee to vent. She rubbed her back and allowed her to cry.
"Well baby girl." The older lady began. "You two need to talk it out. He knows about the child now. He has a right to be in his life. You do want him in his life don't you?"
Marlee began rapidly nodding her head yes. "Yes, I do. I don't want him to not know Elijah."
"Ok then. Start there. And remember that God has all things worked out." Mrs. Jenkins stated.
Marlee nodded her head in understanding and took in the older lady's words of wisdom.
"You'll be just fine Marlee. I've never told you this but you're strong. You're a fine and strong young lady that Is an amazing mother to her son. God has you wrapped up, chile." Mrs. Jenkins spoke. Marlee allowed fresh tears to fall as Mrs. Jenkins rubbed her back soothingly.
