You weren't exactly sure what happened or how it happened, but first you were having a heated argument with Roger, and then you woke up the next morning in another man's bed. Was it revenge for Roger cheating on you, or was it out of spite because you were mad at him, you weren't exactly sure, but you felt terrible for what had When you woke up, the guy you went home with was still asleep, so you were able to dress and slip out of his place quietly, making a beeline for Mary's place. You had to talk to someone about it, and Mary was the only person you could trust.
You had had an argument with Roger about him being out late all the time, coming home drunk or on drugs. You were getting sick of it. You both hardly spent time with each other because of it and you didn't know how much more you could take. You had left the house in a huff, heading straight to the local bar. After a few drinks, a handsome man had offered to buy you a drink, and you didn't hesitate saying yes. You had followed him back to his place after a few drinks and almost an hour of talking. He had made you feel something that you hadn't felt in a long time, and you felt extremely guilty now.
You were now sitting on Mary's couch, still in last night's clothes, your mascara running down your cheeks as you let the tears fall. You had just told Mary everything and you were glad that she was being kind about it all. She had made you a cup of tea, and she was sitting next to you on the couch, her arm wrapped around your shoulder as you let it all out.
"I feel so stupid. I shouldn't have gone off like that." you couldn't help but say as Mary handed you a tissue and you used it to wipe the tears from your now red cheeks. You took a deep breath as you grabbed another tissue. Mary rubbed her back, not really sure what to say. Of course, you shouldn't have done what you did, but then again, Roger could be a right prick when he wanted to be. You didn't deserve it.
"It's going to be OK. I'm sure he's at home now worrying about you. Do you want me to drive you home?" Mary offered as she let go of your shoulder and took your hand in hers. You glanced up at her and slowly nodded your head and she gave you a soft gentle smile. You were glad that Mary was your best friend, you didn't know what you would do without her.
"I'm going to go clean up and then we can go. I'm sorry to bother you with all this." you said as you placed your now almost wet tissue on the coffee table with the others. You got off the couch and headed into the bathroom. You closed the door and you looked at yourself in the mirror. You didn't know who was looking back at you. You never thought you were capable of cheating on the guy that you loved, but here you were, after a one-night stand, about to tell the love of your life what you just did.
Mary had offered to drive you home, but you had decided to walk as it wasn't that far away and you needed the fresh air to clear your head. A lot of things were going through your mind as you walked, your heart beating fast against your chest. You didn't want to tell Roger but you knew you had to if you were to fix your relationship, if Roger wanted to fix it.
When you finally reached the house you shared with Roger, you were a little surprised to see Roger's car in the driveway. You thought he would have gone to the recording studio or out looking for you, but he was home, probably waiting for you to come home so you could talk it out. Taking a deep breath, you walked up the stairs and before you were even able to open the door, the door flung opened and a very worried looking Roger stood in front of you.
"Where have you been? I've been calling everyone, asking if you were with them, but no one seemed to know where you were." Roger rambled on, his voice shaking out of anger towards you as he moved aside so that you could come in. You hesitated for a moment, wondering if you should just turn around and walk away, but you knew better. Taking another deep breath, you walked inside, Roger closing the door behind you.
"I uh was at Mary's this morning. Look Roger there's something I have to tell you." you said as you led Roger into the living room. You couldn't look at him. You didn't want to look into those beautiful blue eyes that you had fallen in love with all those years ago. You were still in love with them, but it was getting harder and harder every day. You sat him down on the couch and you started to pace, which was not helping your nerves.
"Babe, what's going on. You're starting to scare me." Roger commented, his voice soft, sitting forwards on the couch, resting his arms on his legs. You stopped pacing and looked at him, tears welling up in your eyes. You couldn't hold it in any more. You burst out crying, letting the tears run down your cheeks. Roger suddenly jumped up off the couch, walking over to you and wrapping his arms around you, pulling you in tight.
"I'm so sorry Roger." was all you could say, as you cried into his chest. Roger was starting to get worried. He couldn't help but wonder what you had done that was so bad for you to end up like this. This was not like you at all. It took a couple of minutes to calm you down, but once you were all cried out, you were able to take deep breaths and control yourself. Roger sat you down on the couch, sitting down next to you and taking your hands in his. It was now or never.
"Last night after I left, I went to the pub down the road. I met a guy and after a few drinks, one thing led to another, and well, I woke up in his bed this morning but please Roger, it meant nothing and it was a stupid mistake." you rambled, not taking your eyes off him. You could see he was trying to process what you just said, and when it finally registered, his hands slipped away from yours and you could see the heartbreak in his face.
You watched as Roger got up from the couch, running his hand through his hair, trying to make sense of it all. He thought he had been a good husband to you. Providing for you, giving you everything he wanted. It had been love at first sight for both you, meeting just before the band had gotten their big break, so Roger knew you weren't using him for his money. He thought he knew you. Roger had been loyal to you all the way through your marriage and being together despite what the rumours were. Yes, he probably partied too hard, and he knew he was in the wrong there. He had been planning on changing, wanting to start having children with you and now you did this. He thought he knew you, but he didn't know who you were any more.
"So, we have a fight and you thought you'd just go out and sleep with some guy you don't know?" Roger couldn't help but ask, his voice sounding a little harsher than intended. You could feel the shame coming over you and you wish you could rewind and go back to yesterday before it all happened.
"I didn't mean to! I mean I was upset; he was kind of there. I didn't mean to take it so far." you cried as you jumped off the couch, ready to defend yourself. You could see Roger's face turning red, as he walked over to the window, not wanting to look at you. All those years that he told you he loved you felt like they had been for nothing. He wasn't sure your relationship could come back from this. Of course, there had been moments where he had thought about it, but then your face would pop up in his mind, and he would stop himself.
"Roger? Please say something." you softly said as you approached him. You reached out for his arm, but he quickly moved it from your reach. He slowly turned towards you and you saw the heartbreak was gone from his eyes. All you could see now was anger, and he looked like a completely different person.
"I think it's best if I stay with Brian for a few days. Try and wrap my head around this." Roger said, his voice calm, which was a surprise. You had thought he would start yelling at you, but this was little scarier. You didn't know what he was thinking. He pushed past you and you wanted to reach out for his hand and tell him how sorry you were, but what he needed was time.
He needed time to wrap his head around all this. You didn't try and stop him as he left the living room, heading upstairs probably to pack to stay with Brian or John for a few days. You were going to give him the space, but you also weren't ready to say goodbye. You were going to get Roger back, no matter what it took.
