"So this is my humble abode", I said as I led Xavier and Gwen inside my apartment. They looked around and then sat down on the couch. "I'll cook chicken and rice. Is that okay?", I asked. Xavier nodded.
It felt so strange. Xavier and I were best friends, and then boyfriends, but now five years later, we both were acting like strangers. Life really was a b!tch. Look how our fates had turned out...Life was really cruel.
And my feelings...I guess it hadn't completely disappeared like I thought. I still felt something for Xavier, and I didn't know what to do about it.
Soon, lunch was ready and we began eating.
"So...what do you do?", I asked.
"I'm a sports coach in a private school. What about you?"
"Oh! I just work at a call centre. And what about Gwen?"
"She's in kindergarten."
Gwen nodded.
Soon, lunch was over and Gwen suddenly fell asleep while watching cartoons. Xavier and I looked at each other awkwardly. Silence hung in the air for a moment.
"Ummm...", I uttered.
"I - I was wondering if...", Xavier trailed away.
"Huh?"
"Ethan, I - I.... It's been so many years and we just met, but.... I still like you. A lot."
"Oh!" What a smart reply. (-_-)
"Ethan, will you - will you go out with me? Just like old times?", Xavier asked nervously and my jaw dropped open. I couldn't manage a single word.
"I'm so sorry. It's just...I haven't seen anybody since Gwen was born and seeing you today suddenly brought back all those feelings." Xavier looked embarrassed. Oh god!
Finally, I spoke. "I guess Gwen needs another parent to look after her."
Xavier smiled in relief.
I returned his smile.
I guess my days being single were over...
The end.
