Bucky couldn't believe he was doing this. He stood outside of the tall brick building, cars whining past adding to the sounds around him. His metal arm was concealed under a jacket and his hand was covered with a glove. Even when he was offered a more "realistic" one he refused he had become close to his metal arm and wanted to redefine what it meant without too many flashy upgrades. Apart of his journey to redefine his arm and himself was "getting back out there" as Steve had put it. His best friend had pushed him to explore what new New York had to offer. He said that this place was a way he had coped with suddenly being dumped into the future. Bucky almost threw away Steve's advice and turned around to face the long walk back to his motorcycle when someone spoke to him.
"Excuse me, Sir?" He looked up at the woman. She was leaning outside of the glass door atop the steps to the building he was about to walk away from.
"You've been standing here for a while and..did you want to come in?" She pointed to the buildings bright interior. Bucky almost forgot that he looked like a fool loitering outside of this establishment.
"Yes sorry. I'm uh new around here and heard about this place." She looked him up and down ushering him inside.
"You look like it." She smiled "My class is just about to start do you want to join?" His smile faltered and he cleared his throat.
"It's fine if you're nervous a lot of people are. How did you hear about us?" She now led him past the front desk and to a glass wall. He could see a few people milling about, stretching and talking. All preparing for the class he was supposed to go to.
"My friend, Steve, told me about this place. Said it helped him." The strands of hair falling out of his "man bun" as Tony called it became very interesting. The woman gasped and Buck's attention was back to her now beaming face.
"You're Steve's friend?!" She clapped while jumping twice in the air. "He's told me so much about you. I was wondering when you would show up. He said he told you about this place last month. Finally got rid of those cold feet, huh?" She winked at him and grabbed his hand. He jumped as she yanked his metal arm towards the gym. She didn't seem to mind the cold temperature or she didn't notice it but he did. Usually people were afraid of his arm even if she couldn't see it she could feel it. Yet she didn't pull away or shudder she just maintained a firm grasp on his hand as they made it into the bright room. She let go and pointed to the benches where water bottles and jackets were strewn, letting him know he could drop his stuff there. She nodded at him then made her way to the mirror walls where she addressed the class.
He was about to join when he realized that to participate he had to take off his jacket. Underneath he only had on a t-shirt. Everyone would see his arm and while he was fine around the tower here in public was a different story.
"Alright everybody, thanks so much for coming! I know for a lot of you it's your first class so for now let's just stretch to some music. Become accustomed to your surroundings and your peers. Talk as much as you want because later when the real work starts you may not be able to." The woman who knew Steve put on some upbeat music and everyone started stretching. She walked around helping a few nervous people the whole time a smile on her face. She really loved her job. But Bucky stood still by the water bottles a hardened look on his face. The woman noticed this and paused her actions with a girl struggling to touch her toes to face him.
"Hey Bucky? It would really help if you participated." She frowned upon seeing his solemn look. "No one here will judge you. This class is for acceptance. Trust me I've seen just about everything, nothing could scare me." It was something about the way this woman could calm him down with just her words. He liked it a lot and because of this he wanted to trust her. She was taking time away from the other people in the room who also needed help to address him. He had only been thought of in such a caring manner by Steve. All of these feelings and the fact that he didn't want to disappoint Steve led him to remove his jacket. It fell onto the bench in a brown jumble of fabric. The woman smiled at his now shining appendage and grabbed his hand. She pulled him to the lines of people then walked to the front.
