vicious words

bang.

bang.

insult after insult.

the words that pierced through her heart.

footsteps stomped against the upstairs ground and she heard the familiar slam of a door.
silence bounced off the walls, with something along the lines of "retarded" and "bitch" following after it.

looking down at her heart, she saw two new holes, alongside their fellow bullet wounds. the older ones had started shrinking, leaving the heart with permanent scars.

tears.

steady drops falling.

from her eyes,

to her cheeks,

to the page of her book.

amongst the dampness surrounding her face, she still displayed a beautiful, broken smile.

one that had lost its brightness long ago.

along with the scars in her chest, that smile would never heal.
