Trying

It's gone on too long.
At this point,
All I know is numbness.
A weary existence, spent
Treading through deep water,
Only focused on searching for the shore.

Every movement is a drag.
My legs are buckling,
And each millimetre takes a century.
My head is above the surface,
And I can breathe just fine,
But every part of my body feels
Weak.

I feel like I'm going to be in the water forever.
Never drowning nor floating, just...
There.
I've been searching for days,
Months,
Years.

But not once have I seen the shoreline.

Just an endless stretch of water weighing me down.
