Society

Going outside has been quite difficult
When it's time to get dressed up for events or to simply go out
As you go to your closet and find an outfit
It feels like society is watching you
You pick out a crop top and try it on
"Too much fat is poking out"
You put some shorts on
"Your thighs are spilling out like water"
You change your mind and put on a sleeveless dress
"Your arm fat is disgusting cover it up"
Suddenly you don't feel like going out anymore
Because you know society will watch your every move
As you cover your arms as you walk
As you suck in your stomach when you walk pass a group of people
As you look down and never look into their eyes as you feel like someone is walking right behind you whispering these things in your ear.
Society is always right there.
As you scroll on Instagram and see all the famous people just for their looks and their body shape
As you look at their clothes their hair even the eye color they wear
As you compare it to yourself and wonder
why am I not like that?
As the only people who tell you you're beautiful is your family and close friends.
As you walk pass that group of boys and start thinking if they are saying something about you
"Does these jeans make my hips look too wide?"
When society has placed a blonde Barbie as beauty
While I walk the streets with hips, a stomach, and so much hatred,
Hatred for a society who has constantly put me down
Hatred for myself for thinking this way
Hatred for the world to think a Barbie is the only beauty
But today, today I stand tall and pride and say
Screw society
As I walk the streets with hips, a stomach and a smile on my face.
As I walk and look up with confidence and grace
This is my body
And I say screw you to society
