Grace sipped from her glass as she looked around the room, looking for the man she'd be taking home tonight.

There were a lot of potential candidates since the party was for this season's incoming interns.

She knew she'd eventually choose the one her father talked to the longest, knowing that intern was the one he saw the most potential in.

So she'd have sex with that intern to spite him, draw his attention, even if it was just long enough for him to tell her how disappointed he was.

There was a tap on her shoulder and she turned to see her brother standing next to her, "What?"

Mason smiled, "Looking for your next victim?"

Mason understood why his little sister did this. Did he agree with it? No, but he understood that their dad, Isiah, was a self-absorbed piece of shit who used the excuse of working to avoid his family.

While Grace chose sex to garner Isiah's attention, Mason turned to drugs and/or alcohol, whichever one was easier to come by at the time.

At least that's how it began, he gradually became addicted to the white substance he now used on a daily basis.

He'd never admit he had a problem though.

Grace returned his smile, "He's been talking to that white boy all night." She responded while nodding towards a guy who was currently laughing at whatever their dad said, "I think I'll pass."

"Bad experience?" Mason questioned with a laugh.

"Not really sure I'm in the mood for hearing the word 'cock' tonight."

Their laughter died down as they watched their mom make her way towards them.

It remained a mystery to everyone who knew them how someone as good as Samantha could end up with Isiah since they were polar opposites.

Where he was cold and calculating, she was warm and inviting, willing to give her last to a stranger, while Isiah would make it his priority to take the stranger's last.

Samantha stopped in front of her children, observing their bored faces, "If you talked to the people in the room, you'd have more fun."

"I don't like anyone in this room, except you." Mason replied while grabbing her hand, the high from the lines he did in the bathroom taking effect, "Dance with me."

The smile that overcame her face was a partially sad one, as she was now able to recognize when her son was on something.

Doing what she did for most of her life, she ignored it and grabbed ahold of his hand allowing him to lead her to where a host of people had gathered.

Left alone again, Grace resumed her previous mission, her eyes landing on a man who was busy doing something by the table and cursing under his breath.
