It was a rainy morning when I heard my father groaning in the next room. He had complained about hacking and coughing all night long. My father suffered from Sarcoidosis a rare disease caused by inflammation of pretty much any organ including the lungs, liver, eyes, skin, or other tissues. Dad had specifically suffered from Sarcoidosis in his lungs. The symptoms of this sickness included dry coughing, shortness of breath and lack of energy. Blurry vision and weight loss were also factors of this terrible illness.

"Chris," my father exclaimed. "Can you hand me the aspirin on the counter top? " Without any hesitations I leaped from my bed and hurried to the counter top in the kitchen and from there headed towards his room.

"Thanks" dad said, as I stepped into the room. I handed the aspirin to my father hoping that it would alleviate his pains. I then returned to my own room after making sure that dad was feeling well. As I lay in bed I thought of the day I found out about my father's diagnosis and what caused this sickness that would change both our lives.
