As the dying light of the sun painted the sky in shades of pink and purple, twinkling stars crept out in the open sky, ready to be the star of the show. From the skies, the constellation Cassiopeia revealed itself in the waking darkness. A gentle breeze swept across the wide fields of grass, where for miles, nothing but a young woman and her cat stood.

This was it. No more running. The bright lights of Miami and the familiar skyline of New York were gone by now, swallowed by anarchy and chaos that humans excelled at creating. But she smiled as she gazed at the waving grass that stretched on for miles. It wouldn't be so terrible to die here.

A comet streaked across the multi-colored sky, and suddenly, the woman laughed hysterically, throwing her hands up in the air, stretching towards the endless sky. At that moment, it was easy to forget the large fireball in the sky. Her watch chirped gently, and in that instant, it was as if the world exploded into action.

She only really felt the initial impact— and then nothing, only endless oblivion.
