As you walked to the girls barracks, knocking on the door as you always did. Admittedly the girls were kind of use to you popping in from time to time. But you were ever the gentleman, never wanting to barge in uninvited.

A few moments pass but eventually someone does come and open the door for you. Much to your surprise it's Sasha, she quickly scans around you and begins to ask.

"Hey (Y/N) your not Conny." She says so quickly you almost miss the whole sentence.

"Um no at least not since the last time I checked." You laugh a little feeling like this is really strange. But you are also curious to see why she's waiting for him. Plus she is in the door way right now.

"So what are you wanting Conny for?" You ask as politely as you can.

"No reason!" She says with such speed the words sound like their one. She again starts to scan around outside. She's practically looking through you at this point. Her body is shaking and jittering like a scared cat.

"Oh if there is no reason then why are you so jumpy." You jokingly say.

"I'm not jumpy, I'm hungry. Shadis took away my food privileges again." She says sounding more annoyed now. Still vibrating however.

"Oh fuck what did you do this time?" You ask curious. But more just so she might get out of the way quicker.

"I didn't do anything! Ok maybe I did. What! Don't look at me like that, I just didn't feel like doing the training that day is all." She says very defensively.

"So you skipped out on training and Shadis found out huh? Damn Sasha can't you just do what your told for a day? And not follow you stomach blindly?" You say getting a bit more annoyed that you were still here.

"Your one to talk. We all know what you got up too during the hike." She says her face turning more cheeky and cheerful. "Oh Annie I love you two!! Smooch, smooch." Her voice sounding deeper like she's trying to imitate you. Laughing loudly once she's done.

"Alright what the fuck Sasha really! You know I think I know where Conny is." You say trying to get her to stop laughing.

"You do? Where? Ooo I'm gonna kill him when I find him. How dare he make me wait so long for some damn food!" She stops laughing and turns more demonic, she's a completely different person when she's hungry.

"I think I saw him in the mess hall a bit earlier not sure though. You know how forgetful Conny is, he's probably already gone to bed. It is late after all." You tell Sasha. Hoping that this might make her leave and you can finally do what you came here to do.

"Oh for the love of. Ahh fine thanks (Y/N) I'll go get his ass now." Sasha replies a fury in her voice. Conny is in for a world of hurt.

Finally Sasha leaves and you're able to go see Annie. You hadn't spoken to her since you got off the carriage that morning. Hopefully she's had sometime to think things through clearer.

As you look around the various bunks you notice that she isn't there. Confused you think to yourself. Maybe she's gone to that spot overlooking the lake. It always was kind of a hideaway for our little group.

So you begin the walk towards the cliffside. Taking the old path much like before. The trees arching around you like a tunnel. The prize at the end being the one you love. As you get closer to the outcroping, you do just make out the tiny frame of Annie.

She's sitting with her legs hanging off of the cliff, staring up at the night sky.

Hmm to scare her or not to? Better not she could easily kick my ass if I did. You think to yourself as you approach her. Just before you can announce your presence Annie calls out.

"I know your there. You need to work on your footwork, if you're going to try and sneak up on me." She says in her usual uninterested tone.

"Ahh and here I am contemplating if I should scare you or not." You reply walking closer to her side.

"And what did you decide on (Y/N)?" She says her voice becoming warmer and more gentle now that she knows it's you.

"Well scaring you might have been funny but then I thought best not. I don't really feel like dying tonight." You say laughing to yourself as you take a seat next to her.

"I wouldn't have killed you. Just severely maimed you is all." She giggles as she rests her head on your shoulder.

"What are you doing out here? Have you gotten any food yet?" You ask concerned for her.

"Just wanted to be alone is all. And yes I have eaten thanks for caring." She says as she snuggles into you more.

"Hey someone's got to. Why'd you want to be alone?" You say still concerned for her.

"Just clearing my mind as all. Come on (Y/N) you know I prefer to be alone." She says.

"I get that really I do think I know you pretty well by now." You reply wrapping your arm around her waist.

"Oh you do, do you?" She says sounding like she's getting ready to test you.

"Hell yeah I do. Go on ask me anything bet you I get it right." You say feeling confident that there is nothing she could say you couldn't answer.

"Ok then. This will be fun, ok first question hot shot. When is my birthday?" She said sitting up a little facing you dead on. Her face a picture of happiness.

"Easy March 22nd. Next." You reply with confidence. She was starting off with something you couldn't get wrong.

"Ok then. Hmm. Oh I know what's my favourite time of day?" She asks a wide smile crossing her face. Her eyes wide and locked to yours.

"Hmm. Well now, late evening. You like the quite." You say a little unsure about this answer.

"Lucky guess. Alright one more to prove you really know me. And I'm not going easy on you this time." She says with such vigour.

"Bring it on." You reply, nervous as to what she might ask, but wanting to seem like your cool and collected.

"Am I a good person?" She asks you her smile fading and turning back to her cold stare.

"Annie?" You say uncertain how to respond. You place your hand onto her cheek, which she buries her face into. A tear leaving her eye as she does.

"Why would you ask that? Of course you are!" You say trying your best to comfort her.

"Your just saying that." She replies her voice sounding like she's about to break down before your eye's.

"Annie I'm not. To me you are a good person. Your kind and caring, you always make me happy. Even if you don't believe it, to me you are the most amazing person. I can't put it into words how much you mean to me." You say hoping this might bring her out of this sadness, that has swept her away.

"Why are you so good to me? I've never done anything to earn your love." She asks as she moves back into your embrace, looking back out to the lake view. The stars shining bright in the moonlight.

"Cause you deserve to be treated like a goddess. Your such an astonishing person Annie, I mean not just as a soldier but as a friend. I love you. Nothing is ever gonna change that." You say holding her tiny body tightly.

She doesn't speak just stays there in your hold. Her body having calmed and her face going back to it's happier state. She's so fragile. I guess this is what it means to love someone truly. Being able to deal with the good times and the bad. You think to yourself as you stay in this moment. Remembering that night two years ago when you first showed her this spot. How things have changed since then, you've grown as people and soldiers. Your bond becoming one of incredible strength and vitality.

You do have to eventually leave soon though. After all tomorrow was a very important day, you would be awarded your final ranking for the class. You were uncertain of where you would place, but it didn't matter as long as Annie got into the top ten. You would be happy with that.

And so ends this chapter I hope you enjoyed. A little bit of a shorter one for tonight as I'm very tired. Oh well till next time, thank you for reading.

Yours Quirkyman.
