A knock on your door was enough to jolt you awake and groggily make your way to the front door. You swung it open to find your Japanese-American neighbor, Kagami Taiga, carrying a package. He smiled apologetically. "Sorry for waking you. They sent this to my place by mistake." Recognizing the parcel, you grabbed the box and thanked him. Then, he bid farewell and made his way to Seirin High.
Kagami Taiga had been your neighbor for almost three years and became acquainted with him. Furthermore, your roommate, Chiyo Sakura, attended Seirin High and was in the same year as Kagami. According to her, not only was Kagami the ace of the basketball team, he was also elected as the team captain. Ignoring his below-average academic grades, he was an impressive 18 year old with a great bod. Admit it, you did check him out once in a while.

You cursed Sakura mentally for not completing her chore, a simple errand of shopping for groceries. You were already dead-tired from school but still had to stop by the family mart.
Inside, you took the nearest push cart and shopped for things to refill your fridge and cupboards. After finding cereals and bread, you headed to the vegetable section. There, you spotted a familiar redhead with his own basket. You approached him immediately. "Hey there."
"Oh hey. Groceries?" Kagami replied beckoning to your push cart.
"Yeah, 't was Sakura's job. It got pushed on to me." You shrugged.
"I'll help you out then."
As promised, Kagami assisted as you picked out fruits and vegetables, products on sale and affordable brands. After paying for your groceries, he snatched all the bags from your hands and carried it all the way back to your apartment building. Husband-material right there ladies.
"I'll treat you to a meal next time." You mentioned before separating.
"I'll be waiting."

It was unusual of you to rise at 6 in the morning, especially on a Saturday, but you were out and about anyway. You checked to see that the weather was great and took a stroll at the park. While roaming around the area, you observed all the people you passed by: morning runners, cyclists, and old couples enjoying their early strut.
At a distance, a basketball court caught your eye; although, the person occupying it was more eye-catching. Kagami spotted you as well and waved his hand. "Morning (F/N)."
You sauntered over to his side and greeted back. "Good morning. You working out?"
He snickered, revealing a basketball from his side. "It's a weekend so I wanted to shoot some hoops. You know how to play?"
You snorted and held your hands up. "Not at all. If you didn't know, I am an indoor type of person."
"I'll teach you. It's easy."
Thereafter, you learned something for the day; Kagami was a pathological liar. Shooting hoops was not easy for your squiggly arms that barely did any strenuous activity. Despite Kagami being supportive all the way, you could tell he was entertained on how much of a failure you were.
With another push, you threw the ball in the air and watched as the it hit the ring and bounce off to the side. "Damn it!" You swore and stomped off to the bleachers, leaving Kagami behind. "That's it. I'm done."
Kagami shook his head, stifling his laughter, then jogged over to you. "I guess we're done for day." He deduced.
"I want to eat breakfast. I haven't eaten." You notified and dusted your pants.
"Can I join you?" Kagami queried.
"Well, I haven't treated you to a meal for last time."
"Perfect. I know a great place to get breakfast."
"Lead the way."

The day has finally come to an end and you just arrived home from school. You dropped onto the mattress and was about to pass out but there was a knock on the door. With a sigh, you trudged towards the entrance. You saw Kagami, in casual clothing, through the peephole and stepped out your room. "What's up?"
He rubbed the back of his neck and explained. "The thing is, I made too much curry and I was wondering if you would like some. It's alright if you don't like curry."
"I'd like some." You affirmed. "I'll go get Sakura."
He nodded before entering his apartment. "I'll prepare the curry."
You followed suit, excited at the thought of free food, and kicked your colleague who was collapsed on her bed. "Wake up. Kagami cooked curry for us."
She slapped your foot away and turned on her side. "Go ahead. I already ate dinner." She mumbled, annoyed.
Leaving your roommate behind, you exited your room and pounded onto Kagami's door. The spicy aroma of curry saturated the air when Kagami invited you into his apartment. This was the first time you were stepping foot into his territory, merely seeing it whenever Kagami left his door open.
"You can sit anywhere you like. Make yourself at home." Kagami welcomed from the kitchen. "I'll get you a plate."
You took his word and made yourself comfortable on his couch in the living room. You studied your surroundings and commended the owner for maintaining cleanliness. Or, it probably was not difficult to tidy up because there was barely anything in the room besides the couch, a coffee table and television. You concluded that Kagami was just a minimalist.
In a minute, Kagami emerged from the kitchen, carrying two dishes that contained curry and rice. He placed both on the table and handed you a pair of utensils. Just breathing in the scent of the curry was enough for your mouth to water. Both of you clapped your hands in unison then stated. "Itadakimasu (Thank you for the food)."
Without waiting any longer, you scooped up rice with curry and shoved it into your mouth. Consequently, the curry instantly burned your tongue so you exhaled repeatedly, fanning your lips. While you were 'enjoying' your meal, Kagami witnessed the whole thing. "Be careful. The curry is hot." He scolded.
"I couldn't help it. This is so good."
After learning your lesson, you consumed your meals in peace. When both of you were finished, Kagami was about to clean up but you prevented him from doing so. Washing the dishes served as your appreciation for free dinner. Even though you volunteered to do all the work, Kagami still helped out. He was against letting a guest do his chores.
While you were scrubbing the plates and Kagami was rinsing the utensils, you mused. "Is there anything you can't do, Taiga-kun? I mean, you can cook, clean, great in basketball and an all-around gentleman."
Kagami chuckled, a red tint on his cheeks. "I appreciate the compliment."
"I mean, yeah, you're perfect." You continued, words spilling out, until you joked. "Come on, can I be your girlfriend?"
You expected him to go along and laugh it off. He didn't.
From you peripheral vision, his body froze. He blinked a few times before facing you. "Yes, you can." He announced for the whole world to hear.
This time, you flinched. "Huh?" You blurted out, gawking at his fiery-red eyes to check if he was teasing you. He was serious.

Dun! Dun! Dun!
Were you hooked? How was it? I tried leaving it open-ended so you can insert your response. For the story, there were plenty of time-skips because I wanted to showcase your daily life as Kagami's neighbor. It's a slow-burning love story. From strangers to friends. Then friends to lovers. (I'm fond of this type of romance.)
Comment your reaction and thoughts.
